Back in the Saddle Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 I started this one a few months ago in the 'Heller' GB, after being nudged by @JOCKNEY. In typical style, I never finished it in time...😁 The build thread for the model is here, if you want to watch it all coming together. A quiet afternoon gave me the chance to finally photograph the beast. It's a big model - the Vampire and Spitfire are both in the same scale as the 707: The model can be internally illuminated, using some LEDs. That also gave rise to a side project, making a resin GPU and building an integral external power socket, in order to plug in the power: The intention when it goes on display is to plug in the GPU: And power up the cabin: A fun build, but with a few issues along the way. The decals were poor, so some paint touch ups were needed - these are a bit too obvious! As ever, comments and critique are welcome. 40 4
Lord Riot Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Wow! That’s amazing, very impressive. Great idea using a realistic GPU to hide the battery too, much better than having wires sticking out! Glorious looking classic airliner that! How about a night shot with it all lit up? 1
JOCKNEY Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Absolutely brilliant, delighted to see this one finished and it has rewarded all those hours you spent on it, congratulations Cheers Pat 1
noelh Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Looks great. Good idea using the GPU to power up the lights. Actually thinking about it the GPU isn't just realistic but it's an actual Ground Power Unit. 1
tomprobert Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 That's lovely - you're inspiring me to dig mine out of the stash. Tom 1
Terry1954 Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 A great result Matt. Neat idea having that GPU as the power pack! Terry 1
Alex1978 Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Great build and cool idea with the GPU 👍 The BOAC livery is just very classy looking on every aircraft. Those were the days... Alex 1

fightersweep Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Fantastic work! She looks the biz in the BOAC colours. I know it didn't make the close of the Heller GB, but the result was well worth the wait. Bravo! Steve 1
TheyJammedKenny! Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Nicely done! She's a pretty machine, especially in BOAC livery. 1
Bertie McBoatface Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 The GPU idea is genius! The model is fabulous. 1

janneman36 Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Despite the bad decals and issues you had with them you made it into a fine representation of a 707👍 cheers, Jan
kapam Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Fantastic looking 707! You have done a beautiful job and I hope you find space to display it as it ought to be. The GPU and LED effects are awesome and clever!
Viking Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 What a lovely 707! In the best livery it ever wore, gets a 10 out of 10 from me! Cheers John 1
