Dragon T-34/76 Mod.1941 with Cast Turret 1/72 - LTAT GB - build 1

Recommended Posts

This was one of my two projects for the Less Than A Tenner Group Build, which is still taking place in the Group Build section of the forum. If you haven’t dropped by yet, or even if you haven’t built anything yet, you still have another three weeks to get something cheap built – before the end of Sunday 5th September, when the GB Gallery closes. At the time of writing this, we already have 53 absolutely superb, completed builds in the Gallery, covering a wide range of interesting themes.

This Dragon 1/72nd kit was a lovely kit to build and the great surface detail helped with my style of painting. My only real issue with this kit was with the DS band tracks supplied, which look far too chunky for my taste. I have tried to disguise the thickness with some additional mud!

As usual, this kit was painted with acrylic paints which were all applied by brush. It was purchased for £7.25, reduced from £9.50, in Parabellum, in Birmingham, and was built straight out-of-the-box.

Kit: 1/72 Dragon T-34/76 Mod.1941 with Cast Turret

Paints: Humbrol, Revell and Railmatch acrylic paints all applied by brush

Extras: Vallejo European Thick Mud.

My other kit for the LTAT GB can be found here: 1/72 Zvezda Soviet Tank Destroyer SU-100 Snap Kit

Hi Stix,

Great vehicle !, it could perfectly go through one of your 1/48 models, even squinting by 1/35 ... lol ...

The finish is magnificent, no one would say that it was painted with a brush, it surpasses many works with AB that can be seen ...

The barrel looks like a 57mm model instead of a 76mm, although it may be my perception, and be wrong, just curious ...

Maybe you could put at the end a photo with something that can indicate the size of the models ...

I hope everything goes well over there,
Cheers and TC

Hi Francis. Thank you very much, as always, for your most kind comments. I know what you mean about the barrel....it does look a little on the thin side.

Yes, good point about the scale of the models - I will try take a photo of this and my other build, this weekend, with something in view that will show the size of them. Good idea. Thank you.

I am well thank you and I hope you are too. Take care.

Kind regards,

Stix

Nice work as ever Stix.

I agree about the barrel, which doesn't look right at all. I'm wondering if Dragon was inadvertently copying the 57mm HV weapon fitted to a few vehicles?

I do like that SU-100 too. Very impressive.

Best wishes,

Ian

Great work, I agree on the rubber band tracks, they are a bit heavy.

A common problem with Dragon kits.

Hi Roman. Thank you very much and, yes, it is a shame about Dragon's tracks.

Kind regards,

Stix

Great work as usual Stix. You've got an uncanny knack of making a small scale model look larger than it really is. Nice work.

John.

Hi John. Thank you very much, as always, for your very kind comments.

That's just because I keep the camera very close to the model when I take the photos!

Thank you very much Ian. Yeah, it is a bit of a shame about the barrel. The rest of the kit was pretty good - wonder what happened?

Kind regards,

Stix
