Zvezda Soviet Tank Destroyer SU-100 Snap Kit 1/72 - LTAT GB - build 2

Recommended Posts

This was one of my two projects for the Less Than A Tenner Group Build, which is still taking place in the Group Build section of the forum. If you haven’t dropped by yet, or even if you haven’t built anything yet, you still have another three weeks to get something cheap built – before the end of Sunday 5th September, when the GB Gallery closes. At the time of writing this, we already have 53 absolutely superb, completed builds in the Gallery, covering a wide range of interesting themes.

This Zvezda 1/72nd kit was a little more challenging than the other Zvezda’s ‘snap’ kits, that I have built before. Some of the fit, especially with regards the tracks, left a lot to be desired. On the plus side with the tracks, they do look a lot thinner, and therefore more realistic once finished, than the DS band tracks supplied with my other build for this GB – Dragon’s 1/72 T-34/76 Mod.1941 with Cast Turret, which look far too chunky for my taste.

As usual, this kit was painted and weathered with acrylic paints, which were all applied by brush. It was purchased for £9.99 from JH Poynton & Sons, in Derby, and was built straight out-of-the-box.

Kit: 1/72 Zvezda Soviet Tank Destroyer SU-100 Snap Kit

Paints: Humbrol, Revell and Railmatch acrylic paints all applied by brush

Extras: Vallejo European Thick Mud.

My other kit for the LTAT GB can be found here: Dragon 1/72 T-34/76 Mod.1941 with Cast Turret

Currently got the SU 100 and a T34/85 on the bench. Hope they turn out at least half as good as these! Terrific work as always, Stix.👏

Excellent jobs on both those kits! I do like that Su-100! Apparently it was quite a beast with that massive long-barrel 100-mm cannon. Even with that sizeable casement, it was still at least as low in profile as the T-34/76. Definitely one of my favourite AFVs!

Regards,

Jason

P.S. Reminds me I have a Zvezda 'snap-together' kit of the ISU-152 I need to finish. I started it for a GB years ago.

Really excellent builds. The finish and weathering is amazing for the scale. I have often wondered about some of these Zvezda snap together kits, but they clearly provide a good canvas. Cheers Neil

Hi Neil. Thank you very much for your kind comments and I can certainly recommend these Zvezda Snap Kits. Some are better than others in terms of assembly but they do turn out well with a bit of patience.

Lovely build on that/those Stix. I think you might have persuaded me that I need one of those, they look really good, especially after the Stix treatment. :)

Steve.

Hi Steve and thank you too for your kind comments. As I said to Neil, above, they are quite nicely done kits. I have enjoyed the few I have made.

Kind regards,

Stix
