bugle
I Have just bought the Meng Panther kit and also picked up a sheet of there Zim decals. Ithink there was a choice of 5 or 6 Zim decals sheets, i thought the kit can use any of the sheets, prob wrong? The thing is i can only work out 1 version and the decal choice. The other versions i can not tell, the manual is very bad in that respect. it does not even say "use decal sheet" followed by the number etc As anyone had same issue and worked it out? What model of Panther is it D,A,or G and it would be helpful if you gave a reference number for the decal you have chosen.....
bugle
The Meng kit say ausf A, late. i picked up type 2 decals, think there was 5 types? Reading the box it looked like any decal sheet could be bought and built to suit. But nowhere in the manual for build OR paint does it say which decal set. on the paint scheme section many are impossible to tell which zimmerit sheet was used. i might be missing something in the manual. i thought any of the decal sheets sps 050 to 055 could be used with the ausf a ,late kit. was displayed together.
M3talpig
On the A model Panther you can use any sheet 050 was the most commonly used though ..... but here's the thing MAN, Daimler-Benz, MNH were all responsible for building the Panther and so each would have had there prefered pattern for zimmerit application. To be honest unless you have decided to build a very particular vehicle and are doing it strictly to a photo or set of photos (in which case you already know which pattern you need) i wouldn't worry to much ....all the patterns they supply i have seen photographic reference for. Stef N.
Looking on Scalemates, and although it's not very clear on there, I think the colour profiles have some clues of what zim sheet to use with which vehicle.
Massimo Tessitori
I have the same kit to build and i researched a bit on the zimmeritt. The fact is that the type of zimmeritt is unrecognizable on the most part of the photos, as the camo pattern. I wonder how they were able to trace those color drawings. besides I read bad reviews on the Meng zimmeritt delals sheets (for the king tiger). They said that the result was thin, flat and with a tendency to peel off. If you use it, I would recommand some glue under the decal. My kit is stopped for now, I think to buy a roller tool for the tiny lines. I have the 'saw' of Tamiya, butI had not obained the expected results till now. Massimo Tessitori
Maybe you could make an attempt to find photos of the choosen tank on the web or books, but if it is unconclusive, feel free. For example, I found photos of the tank I choose, and found that it had the cross painted on the hull, differently from the drawing on the sheet.
