JWM
Hi, There is a brand new injected kit of Kawasaki KDA-2 type 88 by Sowa-M in 1/72. I do not bought it yet, but from I've seen the in box schemes are from early 1930-ies and from Japan homeland. I've read that this type was in used by Manchurian and in Japan she served till 1940. Moreover, it was said that this type was still in first line at the start of the Second Sino-Japan War in 1937. Has anybody photos or profiles for this type from this period (1937 or newer) ? Toryu
Nothing that I could find in my literature. You might contact George at Arawasi [email protected]. He is the most likely person to have any information.
Blimpyboy
Hiya! Sadly, I was unable to properly establish dates for any of the photos below. Here is a page with Type 88 family aircraft bearing 'aikoku' slogans: http://www.ne.jp/asahi/aikokuki/aikokuki-top/Aikokuki_88shiki_Index.html. This photo has both 88-I and 88-II variants: http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-015-007.jpg This site has some good quality pictures: https://www.google.co.jp/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fphotolog.blog.naver.com%2FPostView.nhn%3FisHttpsRedirect%3Dtrue%26blogId%3Dnaljava69%26logNo%3D60156425706%26categoryNo%3D0%26parentCategoryNo%3D0&psig=AOvVaw0AzvDt3RhwrNO4q_yr9Akv&ust=1628406777926000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=2ahUKEwio4dONrp7yAhXDeisKHRN5DZYQr4kDegQIARAg Also, page 112 of this pdf document has a good clear shot of the fuselage side near the cockpit area (the photos are about a fifth of the way down the document, and starts with the title 'The Army Type 88 reconnaissance/ light bomber'): http://www.sora-stage.com/htdocs/htaccess/70-13TXT.pdf I don't know which variant this one is, but I believe it was based (or at least deployed somewhere) in Manchuria at the time the photo was taken: http://hikokikumo.net/OldHis-Mansyu-HotenHigasi-Sugiyama-08.JPG I believe these are Type 88-Is: http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-2.gif (a good three-view, with markings) and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-001-001.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-001-002.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-001-004.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-001-005.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-015-002.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-015-006.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-003/photos/AHA-MA-003-015-001.jpg and http://gunsight.jp/b/panel/image2/Type88Recn.jpg (from this page, which also has a nice piccie of the instrument panel: http://gunsight,jp/b/panel/a-kisyu36.htm). and https://blog-imgs-106-origin.fc2.com/h/i/r/hirihoukenten/201705232221146b6.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-9.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-2.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-1.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-8.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-3.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-5.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-4.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-6.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-10.jpg and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-7.jpg (this picture shows a full bombload). and Some groovy striping on the tailplane (and possibly fin/rudder) on the picture above. and and and and and and And I believe these are Type 88-IIs: http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-1.gif (a good three-view, with markings) and http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/other1/kda2/kda2-c1.jpg (a nice colour profile) and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-014-003.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-015-001.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-015-004.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-015-005.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-015-008.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-006/photos/AHA-MA-006-015-009.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-003/photos/AHA-MA-003-015-003.jpg and http://www.aero.or.jp/isan/gallery/miyahara-album-003/photos/AHA-MA-003-015-002.jpg and https://blog.naver.com/spartacus2/80113893642 and and and I believe the aircraft in the photo above was displayed in a museum in Japan shortly after having been used on operations (and damaged, by ground fire) in China. and and and and and and and and and and and or and or and and or and and and and Good luck! MDriskill
Wow, what a fantastic selection of photos! Many thanks for that. I would add that Putnam's "Japanese Aircraft 1910-1941" by Mikesh and Abe, has a useful short history of the type.
JOCKNEY
Take a bow @Blimpyboy that is a fantastic reference for future modellers, it must have taken a lot of work but it's greatly appreciated. Cheers Pat
