Wm Blecky
I've been searching the net and have come up empty handed with this so I am hoping that someone here can answer this for me. VVS Hurricanes, did they have treaded tires? if so, any idea of the tread style? TIA.
Learstang
This sounds very much like a case for @Troy Smith. Regards, Jason

But, maybe there is a Soviet exception...
Jure Miljevic
Hello I doubt it. VVS used Hurricane as frontline fighter, operating from grass and unpaved runways, hardly a surface suitable for treaded tires. Cheers Jure 1

OK, less flippantly, as supplied, they had British tyres. But there were A LOT of Hurricanes in the VVS, nearly 3,000. So, Soviet replacements, could, and were used, as seen here http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/DETAILSITE/UK/hurricane/z2768/sovhur_stbdtire.jpg " firstly, it carries Russian-made tires (the Cyrillic lettering can just be made out in the wheel photo). And second, there are a number of small switch panels around the instrument panel coaming which were locally installed items... these would be control switches for the Russian armament installed as noted above." The tyre look to be a standard VVS type tyre as seen on other fighters. from http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/DETAILSITE/UK/hurricane/z2768/hurri_z2768.htm Note, there are photos of the pilot of the recovered Hurricane in the link. "The pilot, JLt. Boris Lazarev (at right), was found preserved inside of the plane and he was turned over to the proper authorities. This Soviet pilot, from the 760 Air Fighter Regiment, was shot down on February 21, 1943 by German pilot Rudi Müller who was flying a Messerschmitt Bf-109G. This was Müller's 94th victory as a German Pilot. When discovered, this plane still had a Rolls Royce Merlin XX engine, two 20m SHVAK cannons, two UB machine guns, and empty rocket rails. This Hurricane is thought to have been in Russia for some time already, because it had its original tires replaced with Russian tires." In modelling terms? Get a VVS tyre of the right size, drill out the hub, and use a 4 spoke Spitfire wheel hub from an Eduard Spitfire. The hub was 12 inch Note, photos clearly showing the tyres are not common, this image http://ava.org.ru/iap/78m/hurricane-ptb-1943.jpg from http://ava.org.ru/iap/78m.htm is very interesting, as it shows a VVS modified plane, both regunned, and with the Soviet made dust filter, but smooth, presumably British tyres, and drop tanks, which look to be standard 44 gallon types. the ava.org.ru site has a few 'new to me' Hurricane photos which are deeply fascinating, including a few showing what look like VVS repaints.... Given that there are maybe 100 photos of VVS Hurricanes, and they had nearly 3000, I suspect as more images end up online that some surprises are due. My line of thought was that in the winter with all the snow, a treaded tire may have been preferable to a smooth one, hence my inquiry. As I mentioned though I was coming up empty handed with my Google searches for any good pictures that would have given me a clear answer. Excellent links, appreciate your sharing them.
