The Horsemen C-130 demonstration team

While I was messaging with one of our 'regulars' on C-130's and the Zvezda new-tool kit, I was reminded of the short-lived demo team that flew C-130A's. I was a fortunate young lad, whose father was attached to the 516th TCW at the time, and got to see them fly. What  a thrill to see Herks thrown around like fighters! Those were golden days for a teen-aged planespotter and model builder. I hope you will find the links of interest. Sure couldn't get away with something like that nowadays! Gotta love those C-130A's- they were the hot rods and sports cars of the  line! Note the Herk in the slot in dayglo orange versus the red arctic high viz markings! If you're a Herk lover, I think you will like seeing these!

Id love to see them try a missing man break

Nah- for  me it would have been the famous Thunderbirds bomb burst! :giggle:

Funny you should say that- when we were stationed with the 516th TCW at Dyess AB, TX back in the 60's, our Herks came back from flying in Operation Goldfire in 1964 at Ft. Leonard Wood, KY. You should have seen our C-130E's flying over in flights of four and making fighter breaks for landing! Sure freaked out the resident SAC B-52 crews and maintainers! Our Herks were painted  with three green stripes around the rear fuselage and outer wings, reminiscent of Suez or D-Day stripes for the exercise- wish I had taken photos!

I'd have paid to see that. :D

I started to think aerobatics and got a mental image of C-130's trying a formation loop in big numbers to break 111 Squadrons record in the Hunter (with a little help from their friends to get the numbers up of course) of the biggest formation loop ever
