SS Hydrograaf, 1:100, 3D, hydrographic ship of Royal Dutch Navy

Recommended Posts

The windlass is finished, all that remains is to print this series of parts.

I still have to draw a small crank winch, which is placed on the starboard side of the foredeck. And the aft compass.

The compass looks like this one:

Not easy to draw the anchor chain channels.

Tks Stuart!

The elements have been printed, especially the windlass.

Only the small hand winch remains, and some painting to be done.

The 4 vents and 2 stove pipes, probably one for the cooker, and one for the front cabins heater.

Drawing of the manual fire pump on the foredeck, it was also used to wash the deck (Washing horse, french expression..).

I finally found what it was thanks to the plan. I don't have the exact shape, so I interpreted a bit.

I have just printed the fire pump and the back-up compass.

I started the drawing of the poop deck.

It's a new way for me: I finish the physical hull and I start the drawing of the boat.

There's a good reason for this: to assemble the half-hulls, I have to sand the two sides that are glued together, and of course the castle housing in the main deck may have shortened longitudinally.

I have to measure this new length on the model, adapting the length of the boat drawing so that the fitting is perfect. I will even make a printout of the lower castle sketch to make sure it fits perfectly, I also have to take into account that the printer will make this piece 0.3 mm larger in all 3 dimensions, I reduce the castle walls accordingly, a headache that deserves some time.

The sketch of the poop deck, the camber and sheer in sight!

Back after a few days of vacations under the sun.

Today, I made some progress on the design of the castle, I also printed the base of the castle to test the real dimensions to know how much to remove in length for its final printing when the design will be finished.

For the widths, it's perfect anyway. I had removed 0.3 mm on the design on each side. It fits perfectly.

Thanks all  & Vincent!

I added a few details, the handrails, the Japy type pump, plus a lot of little structural stuff that was almost invisible, it took me all day.

Beginning of the drawing of the bridge, nothing to finish.

It's not so simple because of the mouldings of the outside walls, the different angles, etc. Thanks to Bromure again for one of the pictures that allowed me to not navigate in the fog.

Of course, it is necessary to sort out what exists today and what was in 1910. It is therefore necessary to constantly compare the photos of the time, of today and the plan of 1910 which remains the basis of the project. Because it is likely that this wooden footbridge has been replaced probably several times since more than a century. So the wooden panels differ a little from the original plans.

But the important thing is to keep the spirit.

I have already spent 2 days on the bridge and it is not finished.

I still have to draw a lot of things, especially the interior, the port door will be opened, the chart table, the chain steering system of the time, the compass, it's already done, the side lights, the bell, the cover brackets, the water tank of the upper bridge, plus some accessories.

2 days on the bridge

Why is it that we modellers have this draw to do interiors in what we build and in many cases, can see very little of it when it is done . Anyway, the bridge externals do look nice and detailed, looking forward to seeing the interior. Crack on good sir.

Drawing of the fresh water tank on the upper deck, a sort of hydrophore gravity system. You can see the bathtub at the bottom right on one of the plans.

I rectified the back of the bridge roof, the shape was not right.

Drawing of the stair railings, plus a few small things.

I have a level mount to draw on the box. Not sure if there was one, but this will give a little more detail.

The set of sketches that make up this 3D project, it's messy as it is.

The fresh water box. This photo is very valuable as it contains a lot of useful information.

Tks Stuart, i'm working on your project too, it's finish.

Today I didn't make too much progress on the design, I rather tidied up and merged a lot of objects from the project to prepare the printing.

I have to sort out what will be printed with the deck itself and what will be printed separately.

I did manage to draw the bridge deck cover support, the inside floor of the bridge, and the bell.
