Faraway
Well, that's done then. It has been an interesting build, owed mainly to the fact it seemed to have lots of sub-assemblies. I've used more PE than on a lot of builds which, I think, has improved the end result. Also, a vast improvement has been the use of Black Cat Models, 3D printed guns, which I got from Starling Models https://starling-models.co.uk/ definitely well worth the money, and not too expensive either. Many thanks to @beefy66 for his excellent guidance for creating hull plating, also many thanks to all of you who sent me links to the many photos of this ship, I was very grateful for all of them. The reason the name on the the Bow and Stern look a bit crappy, is because I have tried to represent the ship as she might have looked on 6th June 1944 : D Day Landings, in which she took part. At that time her name would have been painted over, so I've tried to show it as if the paint is peeling off. I've done the minimum of rigging, as its not my strong point. With regards the rigging, I'm yet again very grateful to Bob at Bobs Buckles @Bobs_Buckles https://www.bobsbuckles.co.uk/ without his TINY eyelets, anchoring some of rigging would have been very difficult. I hope you enjoy the following photos, she by no means perfect, but I think I'm getting better, I'll leave you to be the judge of that. As always, I'm open to all criticism and guidance. Once again, thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy these few pictures. Jon 23

This one ‘felt right’ ? Looking at some photos of this ship, my rigging is very simple. But sometimes, I think it’s better to ‘suggest’ detail, rather than try to add it. Jon. Adm Lord De Univers
Amazing work Jon, listening (reading?) in on your build log got me interested in learning more about these ships (thank you Vince for the above suggestion too) and has been fascinating to watch unfold. The end product is highly impressive, and the name being painted over is an excellent little extra detail. David 1
dnl42
Fabulous work! As for rigging, you're way ahead of me!!! I just got some fine fly-tying thread to try to rig a 1/350 YMS that I finished years ago...
beefy66
Hi Jon cracking results with this build the plating on the hull really stands out on the low angle photos might have to use that tip sometime As for not being perfect I think we are always learning and striving to get the next model to a higher level but the most important thing is make sure you enjoy what you’re doing and this one looks like you had a great time with it 👍 Stay Safe beefy
AntPhillips
Fabulous build and finish, those hull plates really do look very effective, I'll certainly copy that when I get around to building my Dad's ship 👍

My biggest problem is combining PE instructions with kit instructions. It must be me age, but I get confused. Jon

Bertie McBoatface
I bet they were building the real things faster that you did the kit. Yours looks better though. Seriously, that's a very nice model.

Bertie McBoatface
I found this on Wikipedia: SS Robert E. Peary was a Liberty ship which gained fame during World War II for being built in a shorter time than any other such vessel. Named after Robert Peary, an American explorer who claimed to have been the first person to reach the geographic North Pole, she was launched on November 12, 1942 just 4 days, 15 hours and 29 minutes after the keel was laid down.
S-boat 55
Well done Jon, think she looks really very good indeed, I'd not thought of doing something mercantile but she's turned my head a bit which is testament to the end result you've achieved Edited August 5, 2021 by S-boat 55
Bobs_Buckles
Hi Jon, Looks like a keeper to me. Well done! 😉 Thanks for your kind comments regarding my eyelets. I'm so happy to see them being used within the ship building community 👍 Cheers! Bob
