Mirage 2000-01 ESCI 1/48 - finished!

I will try my luck here with the (too?) early Mirage 2000 model from ESCI, when it still had the prototype fin. The rest look ok for an early series C model as well. (apart from the wrong wing sweep that I cannot alter that is...) The nosecone is also the one pre-radar, so it correctly has access panel lines there!

Yay! More 1980s ESCI!  - at least they're honest about what the kit is supposed to represent here :D

yeah!

I actually searched for this specific kit on purpose some time ago!

and they updated the mold in respect to the fin later. (I did that one as an early Peruian P model some time ago)

PE, that is supposed to enhance the typicly weaker cockpit and nozzle areas.. this one is rather comprehensive and also caters for doors, etc...

I guess I will use a resin seat, the MIII pitot seems about right for this one, and some Brassin pylons....

they look rather different and bigger then the plastic ones....  will have to reseach a bit!

started on the mostly PE afterburner and nozzle area

a bit more on the burner can... it is really great use of kit parts and PE :)  (Kinetic did a far worse job on their nozzle 3 decades later :(  )

I was made aware of a potentially interesting magazine article in Cocardes magazine

it arrived today:

XS5l9Hf.jpg

:)

some interesting side stories, next to a small build article.

I am not sure about the chosen colors though....

M2000-01_1er-voli.jpg

I would say he main body is some metallic grey, not a pure metallic color. the wing panels are definitely more shiny.... what do you think?

apart from that, the nozzles are way more shiny, i.e. metallic than the rear fuselage in comparison with the model in the magazine...

another one here:

I think I am basically ready for paining:

tried to put a metalic shine base color on the to remain "grey" parts:

Rr9sIRv.jpg

Revell75, Revell 374, Humbrol 27002

next will be some masking, and probaly preshading the metallic areas.. or the other way round and postshading... lets see!

lots of masking and many shades of metal:

definitely needs some toning down of the shine:

but I guess with the red trim, the tricolor on the ruder and the black anti glare panel and high viz roundels it will look decent enough...

anyone knows if the 01 ever flew with weapons (red dummy M550 and Super 530s... if at all I'd assume, maybe even an old Mirage III era 1200 L center tank)

  • exdraken changed the title to Mirage 2000-01 ESCI 1/48 - paintshop

quicker and with less trouble than expected :)

masking wiht the great Tamiya flexible maksing tape 👍

very very good shielding of everything else... red is a really ..itchy color to get overspray... :D

going to repeat my own question here:

thanks!

AFAIK, yes, but painted and after upgrade with particularly the larger fin tail : Here during Le Bourget 1979. But with grey R550, not orange, but blue S530 ! 🙂 In fact the prototype 01 hadn't any radar (as show by the presence of access panels on both side of its nose cone) and was used for aerodynamic tests.

I think this was issued by Monogram..... does anyone know for sure?

What exactly?

There is a Mirage 2000 by Monogram, yes, but with raised panel lines and Exocet missiles.

Different kit altogether!
