How do chaps.

Was originally going to do a Sherman in French markings but thought i would do something that is actually French!

Voila!

I've just signed up for Hobby Photo Host so i can upload from my phone. That means i don't have to faff about getting out the camera and laptop etc. I can also do 'live updates' as i go along 😉

Some sprue shots.

Be making a start on this later today so stay tuned for updates. Apologies if the pics are a bit dodgy as i'm still getting used to the phone camera settings - despite having the phone for years! 🤔

Steve

Thanks @planecrazee and please get yourself comfy! 👍

Started on the lower hull and running gear. Typical Tamiya as its falling together with no issues thus far.

And some holes poked in the rear plate as per the instructions

Thanks Steve - you've made a great start so far. I can feel my finger wanting to hover over the 'add to basket' button on this model 😄. I've really developed an interest in WW2 French armour and have the ICM FCM 36 and the Tamiya R35 on my wishlist too.  So many great kits - us modellers are spoiled for choice 👍

Steve, glad you changed your mind as to which subject to do, there is something so very French about the Somua.

Welcome to the GB and good luck.

How do chaps

Motoring through this! More done on the running gear.

p?i=1cd9907ec6fa5b8666065c59090c14c1

With the running gear about done i started on the upper hull. This attaches via a couple of poly caps at the rear and a clip at the front. Really nice fit. Various side hatches and panels to be fitted along with the engine grills.

Still a bit more on the hull to do then its the turn of the turret. This is building up very nicely and also very quickly. At this rate it will be ready for paint by tomorrow!

Thanks for looking in and more to follow soon.

How do chaps,

Having a bit of down time in the shed with this. As Lee @BeltArmor says the cast texture is lovely.

Got the various stowage boxes, grab rails and tools fitted.

Bonjour chaps,

Been a while since i did anything with this. Made a start on the turret. The cupola is moulded in 2 halves and this left a bit of a join line to sort. Quick sanding followed by a coat of Mr Surfacer 500 soon sorted this. Will need to sort the join of the turret halves too.

p?i=7d9732e1a8b842259d2cf335ebe1ae61

Gun assembly added to mantlet.

p?i=53a49be8e53465a919c657e9dc0be4a5

And now with the external mantlets fitted and in the turret. Not quite decided if i'm going to add the figure yet, but the chances are i will.

p?i=a604d482c33f0bcb648bd2d1bc2ba374

Turret on the hull to see how it looks. Rather an ungainly looking beastie!

p?i=45c67b4f95a3d420f60ce8b09792a749

Tracks fitted. These were a bit of a faff to get on and sat right. They were a bit fragile and split a few times, that may have been due to me being a bit cack handed though 🤔 Once i had them as i wanted them, i ran some Tamiya Extra Thin over to hold them together.

Not much to do now then it will be time for a bit of paint.

Thanks for dropping by and comments and suggestions welcome as always 👍

au revoir for now

A nice build of a nice kit.  Will you use one of Tamiya's schemes?

Thanks Robert,

The plan is to go with one of the three schemes in the box. A fair bit of planning and masking will be needed me thinks! 🤔

That's coming together beautifully Steve.

Kind regards,

Thanks Stix, much appreciated.

Its been a while but now at the point of paint! This is the marking option i'm going for.. 18th Dragoon Regiment

p?i=c4fe3a6951f6dd24b2a8f597ba4e74a2

Sorted the black basecoat. This is Tamiya XF1 Black thinned with Self Levelling Thinner. Took a while to get a good coverage due to all the nooks and crannies.

p?i=7212a7c2a2aef9edb23c21b0a1e8bd71

Just need to work out the paint sequence for the camo. Will be using Silly Putty to mask.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

How do chaps.

Tamiya XF64 Red Brown o.

p?i=3f13f33d3efefe36ea14f2e9b83c9f0d

And then the Tamiya XF21 Sky. The turret was masked with Silly Putty. It really helps the i can remove the upper hull 👍

p?i=8b2cd629ff42779c5fe6e62d878ad83b

Next up will be Tamiya XF58 Olive Green. The brown and sky will need masking first though.

More soon.

How do chaps,

More paint progress!

Turret with the putty mask removed. Not looking too shabby...

p?i=c73f676e747fd22e37529b916ca954b8

After a bit of masking and fine tuning the XF58 Olive Green went on ok. I do believe i've had this paint for 30 years or more! Still sprayed lovely. Some touch ups needed here and there but on the whole i'm happy with how it turned out.

p?i=c0384545a61d1018f7a8f5a873121515

Now need to mask and spray the upper hull and turret.

More to follow and thanks for dropping by.

How do chaps.

Got the final colour on the turret and upper hull.

p?i=30fe07d9853c35bcec39dbe113c1b99b

Really pleased at how this has turned out. Few touch up's needed here and there but on the whole i think its come out ok. Need to mask up and put some green on the front and lower hulls as i wanted to get the hull top done first to give me an idea of where the green should be 😉

More later...

Thanks Craig @modelling minion Had a mate of mine get me the silly putty from the States a few years back. Only supply i could find at thr time was on ebay and seller wanted 20 quid a time for it! 🤨 Really pleased with how it's turned out and has been good practice for when i do the Renault R35 i have in't stash.
