RAAF F-111C compared to other marks question

For an interesting read on the Australian F111's, have a look at the book Controversy to Cutting Edge by Mark Lax

Its currently out of print and a bit expensive 2nd hand (approx $100) but it looks like it will be re printed soon (see link below)

Hi Peter,

Just noticed another option that one of the guys mentioned before:

Some of the F111A's bought as attrition replacements arrived in early 1980's in SEAC scheme. If this was the time your dad was working (sounds a bit late by your description), these could be an option. The F111A kit is available albeit a bit more expensive than some of the other boxings.

Here's an interesting story/photos from Aussie Modeller:

And a kit costing about $100 landed in Australia

The A's were delivered with short span wings and operated that way for a short time.

Also just found this set of instructions for a combined C/G kit Hasegawa issued at some stage which shows the changes in parts for the 2 versions:

The 1:72 Hasegawa F-111C/G kit (#00952) has parts for both Triple Plow I and Triple Plow II intakes. I used this kit for my F-111B conversion (along with the old Revell TFX kit and a bunch of other aftermarket stuff) and had to replace the kinked intake ramp on the Triple Plow I to the straight ramp used on the F-111B. You even get two lower fuselage sections:

The Hasegawa EF-111 Raven contains all the parts to build a F-111A. The Ravens where converted from low attrition F-111A airframes.

yep the old "A" models operated as delivered for awhile , I was involved in the upgrade program, wheel and brake assy replaced and extended wingtips and flaps added, all F-111 wings are the same the C and G had extended tips , when the RAAF bought spare replacement wings from the US they bought short wings off A/D/E/F models and added long tips , they got replacement short wings as the shorter wing copped less stress than the long span wings (the long wing was ordered specifically for the F-111C for use in the tropics for better takeoff and payload ability in hot weather ). After the  4 x F-111A's  were converted to C models I overhauled all the F-111A wheels and Brakes and these were sold back to the US as spares for their fleet.

Isn't the sole lower fuselage in the Hasegawa Raven kits EF-111A-specific..?

G'day Andre,

 You re correct.

Although the separate fwd fuselage parts have the canoe fairing on the underside, the rear lower fuselage has some raised re-enforced panels running top to bottom and associated with the mounting point at the base of the two lower fuselage antennas, so yes a different lower rear fuselage part. Page 2 of my EF-111A build here shows what I mean

cheers,

Pappy
