Dermo245
Hi all, Anyone know of aftermarket turrets for the Airfix RAF rescue launch? Have been offered the kit for sale but it has no clear parts sprue. I'm not skilled enough to go the vac-forming route so any advice appreciated! Thanks in advance, Dermot
davecov
I think the Armstrong Whitworth turrets on the HSLs were the same as used on Avro Ansons, Oxfords and early Whitleys. If so, perhaps you could source a pair of those either from others who may not have used them or by the aftermarket route (if possible). Dermo245
Nice one @davecov, will try that route! Cheers, Dermot
Orso
I'm not sure that it will work. I looked at kit instructions for those planes and the clear parts of the plane turrets don't bend inward at the bottom like the ship turrets seem to do.. Here are some links to the instructions: Rescue launch: https://www.super-hobby.se/products/RAF-AIr-Sea-Rescue-Launch.html Whitley: https://www.super-hobby.se/products/Armstrong-Whitworth-Whitley-Mk.V.html Oxford: https://www.super-hobby.se/products/Airspeed-Oxford-Mk.I-with-turret.html Anson: https://www.super-hobby.se/products/Avro-Anson-Mk.I-GROUPE-ARTOIS.html But it probably it is a better option than no clear parts at all.
Graham Boak
It might be worth looking at the BP Type C turret from the Revell Halifax Mk.II kit, especially as Revell kindly provide you with two. I'm not sure that they will be a perfect match, but will provide that tapered lower area that none of the others will. And you can do Halifaxes without dorsal turrets - not sure I can really recommend the Revell kit otherwise.
Modelholic
I've a suspicion that not all the ASRLs had the perspex in the turrets. I think there was a previious thread by Robgizlu, Courageous, or, someone else with pics in one of the posts. Tom Edit: I'm pretty sure that 142 in this pic doesn't have them. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:British_Power_Boat_Company_Type_2_'Whaleback'_High_Speed_Launches_of_the_RAF_Marine_Branch,_at_sea_off_Dover,_7_April_1941._CH2495.jpg Edited July 15, 2021 by Modelholic

Al Gunthwaite
Hi Dermot if your happy with the kit clear parts, I’m part way through a conversation of the HSL to a MASB so I should have a set somewhere. Drop me a DM with your details. I’ll look later this evening. Alyn
