Lord Riot
XX970 was delivered to the RAF in January 1976 and served much of its time with 6 squadron at the home of the Jaguar, Coltishall in Norfolk. It served in the Gulf War, receiving a temporary sand colour before reverting back to green and grey, then being converted to GR3 standard in the mid 1990s. This Jaguar is still complete and currently used for technical training at RAF Cosford. This is the 1/48 Airfix kit, and needed a bit of scratch building to display with the flaps and slats down. I used the Eduard etch set and Air Master probe, plus a mix of Xtradecals and Kits World decals for the markings, serial and tail code. All comments and suggestions welcome! redcap
Nice model mate - this subject is crying out for someone to do it (properly) in 1/32. Gary 1
Gary Brantley
Sweet! That turned out really fine! I've always thought they were sleek aircraft and you captured that look perfectly.
SAT69
Very well done! That Jag' has such nice lines.
stever219
I love that first low-angle shot and the first of the underside views, I think you’ve captured Essence de Jag beautifully. I was lucky enough to have a visit to 6 Squadron’s hangar at Coltishall in 1975(ish) and encountered XZ385 in her freshly-applied wraparound camouflage in contrast to the other jets that still had their Light Aircraft Grey undersides. Happier, simpler times.
TheyJammedKenny!
Nicely done, and the low-angle shots are quite good. I love the camo scheme!

The Jaguar was entering service just as "tone down" came into effect, so all production examples wore red and blue national markings but retaining the Light Aircraft Grey undersides as worn by the prototypes. with a matt finish to all exterior paintwork. RAF participation in multi-natiinal air combat exercises soon revealed that in manoeuvring flight at low level the LAG undersides were a dead giveaway of an aircraft's position so the upper surface colours were applied to the undersides also with, in some cases, a considerable reduction in the amount of white in squadron markings and codes, and a reduction in their size. 1

bar side
Very nice build. The slats & flaps set it apart & prove that you don’t t need to tackle the Kitty Hawk kit to get a more detailed Jag. I do have a soft spot for the Airfix kit and your added scratch & etch works well
Alan P
Well, you certainly nailed that one 👏👏👏 Really like the finish as well, the smooth grey green lines unsullied by the fake 'weathering' so trendy these days 😉 Excellent work on a tricky kit, especially for the seamless aftermarket enhancements 👍 Alan 1
Terry1954
Great to see this one finished and what a beauty indeed. You have really captured the look of the Jag, and judging by what others have said, a bit of a challenge to build. Must get myself a Jaguar! Jonners
Very tidy! I went on my first air cadet summer camp to Colt in 1987, so I probably saw this machine. Mind you, we were under canvas, it rained and we didn't get close to a real Jag. 😩 Edited July 16, 2021 by Jonners
Vulcanicity
Very nice Jag, the underside shot could have been taken looking up from under the Coltishall runway threshold!
chrish
Lovely work! Do you think we are likely to see a new tooled 1/72 or 1/48 Jag from one of the major manufacturers any time soon?

bar side
I like leaving builds around the house & just catching a view of them as you pass. My wife isn’t quite so keen on them sitting there gathering dust! Jag looks good though
