B-26B Invader, 1st Air Commando Group, `Operation Farmgate`, Bien Hoa Air Base, Early 1960`s

Lovely work Russ - restrained weathering and exhaust staining nails it. I had not realised the type was in service so long - every day's a school day!

Cheers,

Roger

Great, great build of one of my favourite aircraft.....and in an unusual scheme too.

Another masterclass in painting too, Russ !

Well Done, Sir !

Hello, Russ.

Constructions always neat, and superb painting, what else? I am absolutely a fan of your accomplishments and the themes you have touched on.

The dosage of the juice in the lines of panels is always delicate on an aluminum paint. What did you use?

Thank you for sharing.

Regards,

Eric-Snafu35

Thanks Eric, after Matt varnishing and drawing the lines in with a pencil, I just dry brushed various Olive Drabs and Greys into the lines with a short stiff brush and rubbed it about with my thumb.

Cheers Russ

Russ,

Very, very nice B-26B! You got the nose contours and the characteristic 'sit' of the Invader right on the money. I think the pylons look very good, too- I don't have a lot of photos of the Farmgate aircraft, but what I see of the pylons looks pretty darned good! Are you waiting for the announced 1/48 B-26K/A-26A kit to be released? I hope ICM  gets all the changes right! 👌

Mike

Thanks Mike, yeah I probably will, Should be easier next time round with not having to delete the turrets etc. Still expecting to have to attack the nose though.

Thanks Roger, the `K` version was in service until 1969-70 with the USAF and some with other foreign Air Forces until the early 80`s

Fantastic build Russ, have you seen the 1/48 Farm Gate figures wearing the stetsons?  A couple of those would look mighty fine next to this beauty.

Thanks Phil, I`ve seen them, not sure if I`ll get any, I`m crap at painting faces, although I suppose I could give them all sun glasses 🙂

Cheers Russ

'Special Kay' is  currently the only restored and airworthy A-26A/B-26K, and she is based here in Texas at Meacham Field at Ft. Worth. See the link to some good detail coverage, including  the nose contours. Can't wait util this pandemic is under control and we start having airshows again so I can get some good detail photos of her! (Hopefully ICM will include the KC-135 wheels that were fitted to the A-26A/B-26K.)

You 1/48 modelers are lucky, as I'm sure the ICM kit will be  much better than the mish-mosh 1/72 B-26K kit that Italeri released. (Trying to get too many versions out of one set of molds seldom works out- you would think they had learned their lesson with their 1/72 F4U Corsairs!)

Thanks for the links Mike, there`s some great photo`s and story in there. I think the last time I`d looked at in ( on UTube ) they had it taxiing around the hanger with no outer wings! It`s come a long way since then 🙂

  • 1 year later...

Sorry if I am late to the party but how did you recreate the painted aluminum finish? Humbrol silver? BTW there is a solution to the nose issue. A gentleman on FB is selling re-designed noses for Invaders.

I like the B-26B, I like all the B-26's; interesting because by now (well after WW2) the Invader B-26 and in WW2 the Invader was an A-26. The B-26 of WW2 was the Martin Marauder. I have a strange liking for these twin engined bombers! Great job! First class!👍
