1/72 Modelsvit South American Mirage III

After the abortive start that was the Mirage F1C (I didn't actually start just realised I didn't have all the bits) I have rooted through the stash and found this  I have a particular interest in Argentinian planes and so will be building one of those schemes.  I seemed to recall some fit issues but lets see.

Ooh, I remember seeing bits of Argentinian Mirages when I was on my first tour of the Falklands in 1986...

I love the Mirage family, really pleased to see this in the GB and good to see some different markings.

Good luck and welcome.

Thanks Wes.   Never made it to the Falklands. Did end up in Argentina in 2007 on the 25 anniversary of the war which was “interesting”.

So far the build experience has involved injection marks, vaguely fitting parts and flash….Eduard it is not.  Still that’s half the fun of modelling.

Will watch with interest, I have been poised for a while to get a Modelsvit Mirage III.

Davey.

Hi Davey

Sorry for the lack of response (and progress so far).   Its a good kit.  Some tricky build elements particularly getting the nose to alight properly with the fuselage - but that may be builder error!

Hi Dave

Time to dust this one off, going by the number if parts and decals you will need a good while to build it.

Best of luck

Cheers Pat

Thanks Pat

Unfortunately a combination a Covid and another C in the family has meant precious little bench time this summer.  Sometimes there are more important things than modelling 😉

I have however managed to make a bit of progress this last week.  More to follow.

As mentioned above I have made finally progress this week.   Started in the usual place....

It all came together very nicely.  Especially after a few washes and some seatbelts.  The photoetch seatbelts came with the kits for which I am always grateful.

Then a jump to post everything coming together.  Sorry I was in the zone and forgot to take photos for a few days!

Now with canopy and tanks.  Getting a smooth finish on the tanks was tricky and I am not 100% happy with the result.

Thanks for looking.

Great progress, Dave...

Did you have any fittings problem with this kit?

I found a bit 'step" between the upper and the lower wing joint. But that just me being impatient. I should've able to avoid it by sanding the mating surface more.

Hope everyone's safe on your side, Dave..

Cheers,

Mario

Hi Mario

Thank you.  Hope all is safe with you and yours as well.

No major problems I had some issues with aligning the nose and there was a bit of a gap at one wing root but these could easily have been my error rather than the kits.

Afternoon all.  A bit more progress on this.  First up I masked and painted it using the Hataka Argentinian paint set.

The paint went on well but the blue colour was too light when compared to the suggested blue and the only photo I could find of this airframe which at the follow webpage (sorry I couldn't make it appear as a link).

So after some consideration I made a filter and using a couple of layers ended up with this to which the decals were added.
