Marlin
Hi, The renovation of our appartment building and my subsequent move out of the appartment has been postponed, again..... I'll celebrate this by going to sea with Marine Nationale, the French Navy. And speaking of the French Navy, I don't think a Bouillabaise would be unknown to them. Of course we must have some French food in the GB 001 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr That's what I and my wife did last Saturday at our cottage. A real Bouillabaise should have three kinds of fish, we only had cod and salmon and shrimps. And a pair of scallops on the side. All served in a sauce made with, white wine, tomatoes, fennel, garlic, onions and saffron. 002 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 003 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 004 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 005 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 006 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr This fantastique meal was enjoyed on the terrace with fresh potatoes, a local beer and a glass of Riesling, (sorry German, not French.) 007 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've dug out Revell's Rafale M from the stash. This is the updated version with GBU-12's and bombracks. 008 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've had it in the stash since 2016, so I guess it's high time that I build it. I'll be using Syhart decals for both the aircraft and the ordnance. 009 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'll also add some full length intakes from Dmolds. 010 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr A Damocles laser pod from L'Arsenal. 011 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And then I'll substitute the kit's GBU-12's with some AASM "Hammers" from L'Arsenal. Not because there is something wrong with the kit ordnance, just because the "Hammers" look more "French" and cooler. 012 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've not taken the sprue out from the bag yet, so no early start..... 013 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To be continued..... /Bosse

Wez
Stop it with the French food! I'm missing my annual wine grabbing trip holiday and lots of lovely French food again this year. I like the Rafale and I'm glad we have another one in the GB. Welcome and good luck.
Marlin
Hi, and thanks Wez. Postponed holiday trips are a bit of a bore. We usually spend a week or two in Germany by the Atlantic coast. But that's been postponed until further notice, so I can understand your feelings. As for French food, there will be some more I promise you that. I got some French BBQ ideas I'd like to try out. Yesterday when I got home from my second Covid-19 jab I went straight to the worktable and started working. Bastille Day was finally upon us and I could rip the plastic bags of the sprues. 013 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The first thing I did, after some drooling over the fine details on the parts, was to glue the ejection seat together. 014 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I think it's good enough for my needs so I'll not replace it with a resin seat. The I glued the bomb racks together. 015 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Looks a bit cooler than the TER's from yesterday. The kit has all three 2.000 liter drop tanks, even though the instructions doesn't mentions it. 016 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But with the help of the instructions from Revell's Rafale C I could find out which pylon that's going to hold the belly drop tank. The tanks are in four parts each, so I'll have some seams to clean up this evening. The wings have been glued together. 017 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr As have the fin. 018 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And before it was bedtime I glued two MIC EM missiles together. 019 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr So this evening I'll have some more sub assemblies to glue together, start paint the cockpit, drop tanks to sand, build six resin Hammers etc. So I guess I'll be busy. Did I experience any side effects of my second jab? No, just a bit sore where the nurse put the needle. To be continued..... /Bosse
exdraken
Great project! AASM is the way to go Regarding aftermarket, seems you are covered! Did you have a look at the Eduard PE for the pit?

Marlin
Hello in the heatwave. 🌞 😎 Here in Sweden we're having temperatures in the +30-35C range. And that's a bit higher than a normal summer here in the frozen North. I don't mind so much, but it make normal life a bit harder than usual. For example I have my work table by the window in the living room, and we have afternoon to dusk sun in the livning room. And yesterday when I got home the thermometer showed +41,6C outside in the sun, which makes it's a bit unpleasant to be there for too a long time. But I managed to do some more work. I'd planned to sand all three drop tanks, but on two of them I hadn't glued the seams well enough. So I had to re-glue the seams on them. But one of them I could sand and polish. 020 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And glued the centre line pylon to it. I'll try and fix the wing drop tanks this evening, if it's not too hot at the window in the living room. I've cleaned up the Damocles designator pod and glued it in the stowed mode for added realism. 021 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I think getting the full length air intakes in place will be the most time consuming step on this build, so I've cleaned them up, and I'll concentrate on this work over the weekend. 022 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I'll have to check how far in they need to be painted with the grey camouflage colour. And to answer @exdraken question regarding PE, I did check out Eduards set for the Rafale M, but decided not to use it on this build. I found Airscale cockpit decal when I was searching for the resin part for my Netz build. And I'll try to do my best using these decals instead of PE on this build. 023 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I really have to organize my aftermarket decals, PE and resin sets better. I found stuff I bought years ago that I didn't remember buying in the first place. To be continued..... /Bosse
exdraken
The Rafale IP is rather peculiar ... curious if the Airscale dials/screens will work...

Marlin
Hi. I've finished the two remaining drop tanks and glued them to their pylons. 024 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've prepared the fuselage for surgery. 025 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Putting the saw and knife to a perfectly nice and new kit isn't something I look forward to. As I said earlier I'll arm my Rafale with six AASM Hammer bombs. Each bomb consists of 10 part, bomb body and rocket exhaust and eight fins. 026 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 027 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr One done, five to go. Rocket exhaust in place on all six. 028 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And the eight fins are next. 029 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr First pair in place. 030 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And one bomb complete. 031 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And now I'll have to repeat this five more times. To be continued..... /Bosse

Biggles87
Wow, you've really taken a run at this and made rapid progress. I've had one of these for several years but have yet to start it because of the lack of intakes until now, looking forward to seeing how they fit. Jasonb13
Excellent work so far! I'm doing a 1:72 Rafale M, so will be watching this very closely! Which scheme/aircraft are you doing?
Marlin
I've not deceided yet. I want to do an aircraft from the Libyan operation. So I'll have to ser IF I can find a picture of one carrying the Hammers. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. It's time for a progress report. I've been at our summer cottage for ten days. And this time we had some wonderful sunny summer weather. So lots of barbequed meals have been enjoyed. For instance some lovely lamb chops. 032 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 033 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr It's only mu youngest son Axel and I who like lamb, so there is some pork chops on the grill as well. And when your enjoying a summers afternoon by the grill a nice glass of rosé win is a treat. 034 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Dinner is ready! 035 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Served with potato gratin and my wifes fabulous red wine sauce. But enough with the food for this update. Before I really can do some work on this kit I have to start with cutting it up to be able to fit the full lenght airintakes. 036 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Well it seems to work. 037 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 038 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Some sanding here an there and these will fit nicely. I've managed to complete all six Hammers. 039 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To mount eight small resin fins on six missiles was very testing and teadious work I say. But I managed to get them all inplace and didn't loose a single one when I was doing it. I still got some more days of work and I don't start work until Thursday, so I will have some more progress to show later on in the next couple of days. To be continued..... /Bosse
exdraken
Those 6 Hammers look great!! Also we'll done surgery, have done that before, definitely doable, and the surgery part well hidden as well

Biggles87
Good work on the Hammers, they do indeed look great. I have the Skunkworks ‘French Weapons’ set which includes Hammers with most of the fins already attached so that’s the route I will take to save wear and tear on my poor old eyes. Marlin
Thanks John. If I ever again feel for adding six Hammers to another aircraft I'm surely going to look for the Skunkworks set. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi all. I'm on my last day of vaccation for this summer, and it's have been spent at the worktable working on my Rafale. I've glued the resin wheelbay in place. 040 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've glued the resin intakes in place as well. 041 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 042 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 043 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 044 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've also got the nosewheel bay in place. Now I've got to finish the cockpit since it'll be mounted to the top fuselage from the inside. And after that I guess I'll some more work in front of me getting the fuselage halves together. And I reckon it'll be some work to get them to fit around the intakes. To be continued..... /Bosse
exdraken
you managed to achieve some good fit! the main concern now is to to glue the front fuselage halves together... there is lots of detail to be lost!. Maybe a vertical joint would have been better there ....
Marlin
Thanks Werner. I plan to work more on the Rafale during the weekend. We'll see then how it goes. /Bosse
