TimJ
As mentioned in the chat thread I'll be hitting the strip with a Fox body Mustang drag racer. TonyW
1990 seems like about ten minutes ago, not the thirty one years it really is. It hardly seems possible. The Fox Mustangs are a whole world of newness to me. I'll be following along with wide eyed amazement. Tony. Duffer.
TimJ
The third generation Mustang became known as the Fox body as it was built on Ford's Fox platform which was shared by a number of Ford vehicles ranging from the Ford Fairmont to the Lincoln Continental. As promised here are the box contents. The kit includes parts for a stock version as well as the drag racer so I'll have quite a few parts left over. TonyW
There are far more parts in that box than the artwork suggests. Front and rear roll bars, rack and pinion steering, and even an airbag equipped steering wheel. I hardly recognise it as American! Very interesting. It's going to be an informative build for me. mustang1989
I LOVE these cars. Had one myself and that was one wicked ride. Clocked in a 3100 lbs and it dyno'd at 348 hp on motor and I had a 150 shot of nitrous and had 4.10 gears which helped her go a best of 12.2 seconds in the 1/4 mile. This picture was taken shortly after I hit a pot hole with those 3-1/2 inch wide "skinnies" up front which always puts a nice bend in them. Folks.....there's a reason why those wheels come with a "NOT FOR STREET USE" sticker on them. During my 10 years of owning this car I must've replaced four front wheels. But it just looks so dang cool to me. and this one here was taken shortly after my cowl hood was replaced with a stock one after a huge crack developed around the latch of it. TimJ
I reckon it's about time I posted an update. I started off by building the engine/transmission which was finished in various metallic shades. I left the fan in the bare plastic with a black wash to dirty it up a bit. DSCF2364 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF2365 by timothy jones, on Flickr Next up the suspension parts were assembled and given a coat of satin black. DSCF2366 by timothy jones, on Flickr The chassis also got a coat of satin black along with a couple of coats of steel on the fuel tank. DSCF2468 by timothy jones, on Flickr Hopefully the next update won't take so long.

TimJ
There hasn't been much modelling going on for the last few weeks (I haven't even started my French Fancy build yet) but I have got back to this in the last couple of days. The front suspension and radiator have been added to the floorpan along with the engine. DSCF2626 by timothy jones, on Flickr The body has been primed and is waiting for me to decide what colour to paint it, which is one of the things that have held the build up. DSCF2627 by timothy jones, on Flickr I probably won't be finished by the deadline but I'll carry on until it's finished.
Spiny
Never mind the deadline, better to get it done properly than rush it.
TimJ
Compared to the last few weeks the last 24 hours have been productive. First up the rear suspension, propshaft and brakes were added. Then the exhaust was painted and added. DSCF2628 by timothy jones, on Flickr One of the reasons that the build stalled was the rear slicks, which had very noticeable mould lines which were tricky to sand down as the tread of the tyre was concave as the tyres are hollow. I had a bright idea though and by taking them off the rims and pinching the sidewalls the tread surafce became convex, making it easy to sand the seam down. DSCF2630 by timothy jones, on Flickr With the interior floor/engine bay fitted the wheels were added to give me a rolling chassis. DSCF2633 by timothy jones, on Flickr The rear spoiler was painted with Plastikote Aircraft Aluminium. DSCF2631 by timothy jones, on Flickr Finally for this update I managed to get the body painted in between downpours (the back garden is my spray booth). DSCF2632 by timothy jones, on Flickr The paint is Vauxhall Caribic Blue from a Halfords spray can. Tomorrow I'll be working on the interior Who knows,, it might be finished on time after all. 🙂

TimJ
More progress. After repainting the carpets with Hu27 to match the Tamiya Gunship Grey which the other interior trim parts were painted with I painted the roll bar body colour and the seats black. I found a couple of seat belt decals and added them to the seats which were then fitted to the floor along with the roll bar and console. DSCF2635 by timothy jones, on Flickr The dashboard parts were assembled and the IP decal added. DSCF2636 by timothy jones, on Flickr The paint on the roll bar was a fair bit shinier than the paint on the body so I decided to give it another coat or two. The result was a lot better than the flat finish I had yesterday. DSCF2634 by timothy jones, on Flickr The interior should be finished tomorrow so I'll be able to concentrate on the body.
TimJ
Only a bit of progress today but the interior is finished. The door panels had some detail painting and a black wash in the speakers before they and the completed dashboard were fitted to the rest of the interior tub. DSCF2637 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF2639 by timothy jones, on Flickr On to the body tomorrow. 🙂

This one is looking really good Tim. I'm definitely with Spiny on the deadline sentiments. Better to finish as a good turn out than to get in a hurry in trying to meet the deadline. I'm right there with you on mine I can tell you that. There aint no way in HELL I'm going to meet the cutoff. I would've liked to but it's a build that's near and dear to me so I'm going to take my time and try to do a good job on it.

TimJ
The two week extension means that progress has slowed a bit but it's getting closer to the end. The body has had a couple of coats of clear and the window surrounds have been painted on both the body and glass. DSCF2645 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF2646 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF2647 by timothy jones, on Flickr There isn't a lot left to do now so I should be finished by next weekend.

TimJ
This is getting very close to hitting the strip. I decided not to use the stripe graphics on the decal sheet as this is one of my best paint jobs and seemed a shame to put decals over it. The decals I did use went on OK. The windows fit from the outside so I left off fitting them until after I'd fitted the body to the chassis. Things were progressing well until I was fitting the lenses for the tail lights and one of the reflectors fell inside the body. 😒 After removing the body it was glued back in and the body reattached (good job it wasn't glued, it's a good fit and just snaps on). Here's how it looks at the moment. DSCF2676 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF2677 by timothy jones, on Flickr The next update should be the finished model.
TimJ
The rear wing, door mirrors and headlamp lenses were added yesterday so this is finished. A nice kit that went together without too much trouble. DSCF2679 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF2688 by timothy jones, on Flickr DSCF2685 by timothy jones, on Flickr More pics in the Gallery.
