Michael Morris
Hi I'd like to make a model of the carrier USS Ticonderoga CVS-14 picking up the Apollo 17 command module in 1972 I'm looking for something between 1:500 and 1:1000 scale. There appear to be an offerings from Atlantis in 1/700 scale. Is this the only model, or are there others or can another Essex/Hancock class carrier be converted? Thanks. I've just seen this and see no one has replied. There is a summary here of which Essex class ships underwent which post-war modifications. This should give you a starting point. Just watch for the location of the starboard side deck edge lift which varied in some SCB-125 conversions depending on what had happened before. https://www.seaforces.org/usnships/cv/Essex-class.htm And you will find plenty of photos here. https://www.navsource.org/archives/02idx.htm
Michael Morris
Thanks. Those are very useful links. I've managed to pick up a Revell USS Wasp kit at a sensible price, so I may build it as is and change the subject to a Gemini recovery. I've still not decided. It would be useful to understand the differences between Wasp and Ticonderoga before making up my mind.

Original differences basically summarised in it’s Wikipedia entry : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Ticonderoga_(CV-14) The modernisation details are summarised in the relevant SCB entries : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCB-27 And : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCB-125 So some modification required to the Wasp kit but more than doable. Although I thought this kit was great when I was a kid (having built both the Hornet and Lexington boxings) (and although I hate revisionist history) with modern hindsight it’s a real shame it’s an “odd” scale. dnl42
I saw in my LHS that Hasegawa has a 1/700 HANCOCK if that's of any value.
