fishplanebeer
I've just applied the base/first colour of RLM73 for what will be a RLM73/RLM72 splinter camouflage to my Dornier 217E and wondered if I should now varnish it for protection before I start to mask off the pattern and apply the RLM72, or would this then affect how the RLM72 goes on so best just to be extra careful when appling the masks? Mike
I sometimes overspray my basecoat with clear, particularly if the paint I'm using is a bit delicate, and I'm going to be handling or masking the model a lot. Unless you screw up the gloss coat, it can't harm
Dr. Quack
You could apply the masks then a light clear coat ..... this would protect the base colour and also provide a seal for the mask edges preventing seepage under the mask when you spray the next colour. Worked well for me spraying the long fuselage demarcation line and invasion stripes on my Sea Fury build. Don't make the clear layer too heavy or you may end up with a raised edge.
