Modelholic
Say's it all, really. What colour did the USN paint the interiors of their ships. Specifically hangars on cruisers. Ta All Tom
Adm Lord De Univers
Ooh interesting question (I have a similar one for ww1 british bbs), but to stop hijacking this thread: The USS Intrepid (ww2 Essex class carrier) is now a museum ship in NY - do go if you get the chance. But there will be plenty of photos online showing the colour of its hanger - from memory an off-white for the hanger with a slight bluish tint elsewhere. I assume this translates to cruisers and assume the colour is roughly the same now as it was back then. Otherwise there must be preserved cruisers in the US (I know there are battleships) for which there will be loads of photos online. For the battleship New Jersey It appears that it was off white throughout. David
europapete
The USS Massachusetts in Fall River Mass, has an off white interior.
dnl42
FWIW, here are pre-war shots of LEXINGTON's hanger and RANGER's hanger. Side note, both photos show aircraft being triced from the overhead.
Modelholic
Here's a pic I found http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=6603&start=200 (post 1434) So thought I'd have a go on my '350 San Francisco '42 kit. Off white is good for me. Thanks All Tom
EwenS
Here are the official USN warship painting instructions dated June 1943. https://www.shipcamouflage.com/painting_and_cementing_toc.htm Specifically in relation to hangars (no distinction between carriers and other vessels) is “inside white formula 27”. https://www.shipcamouflage.com/painting_and_cementing_chapter5.htm#Finish of Compartments.
