The Fujimi kit was well moulded, with very fine recessed panel lines.. apart from a few that for some reason were raised. I built the kit many years ago and I seem to remember that there was something wrong with IIRC the wing leading edges, with one higher than the other or something similar. Cockpit was very bare, Pavla offers a resin replacement aimed at the Airfix and Heller kits, don't know if this would fit the Fujimi offering.

My memories of the Fujimi from the kit was new 35 uears or more ago was state of the art surface detail, very simplistic cockpit interior and landing gear - like they were designed for totally different models. Also trailing edge was partly quite thick IIRC. Shpae issues I don't remember any more.

In terms of mould quality I'd still take a Heller Alpha Jet over the recent KP SF.260. Granted, the latter is a short run kit, but others have shown that it is possible to have short run kits without flaws and scars all over the plastic, have clearly defined small parts and details and even make then fit well enough to compete with certain mainstream products. The Siai was nothing like it and reminded me of moulding quality of a couple decades ago.

If the future KP Alpha Jet will be more similar to their Bf.109 series, then will be a different story and a well buildable kit, Guess that the type of mould quality will depend on their sales expectations, Of course we'll only see it when the kit hits the shelves... Contrary to the SIAI, this time I'll let others buy the kit first and wait for their assessment.

I'd agree with Giorgio as long as the model is basically accurate - which the first subtypes of the AZ/KP Bf 109s were not.

I waited for the Special Hobby SF 260 and after building it I would comment the fiddling of the wing to the place and a wedge on the top of the cowling to wide it a little in the front for better fit with front and lower cowl. Surface and smaller parts are mostly fine.

Cheers,

AFAIK all previous released 1/72 kits are based on the prototypes, with different wing profile and sawtooth compared to the serial Alpha Jet. The Matchbox kit looks like based on a very early Alpha Jet mockup.

This picture (1/48 scale) shows the different position of the sawtooth. The modifikation was needed for better handling during flight (stall).

So, which one is correct for a production version.

Andre,

you must clearly have a reference to compare those two lines.

Where would be the correct dogtooh?

Kinetic is correct.

The prototypes had the dogtooth further outboard and landing lights on the leading edge of the wing.

I've never built any in-house neo Kovozavody Prostejovs before - I started an ex-RV MiG-21 build once, wasn't impressed, sold it on & since held the belief that KP are usually rather difficult builds. Am I correct in this assumption or are there also good or fun KP kits out there?

Is it just me or does anyone else have the impression the parts seem to be carved out of solid soap (with corresponding detail)? 🤔

I mean, doesn't the moulding quality seem eerily reminiscent of their SF.260 of late?

Some of the parts look heavily "inspired" by the Heller kit:

Landing gear? I'm lookin' at you.

Others, look like they're taking their cues from the Airfix kit:

Wings, Fuselage, Tanks Pylons, pretty much everything else all look pretty "similar" to the old Airfix molds.

A totally mixed bag.

Some of their new releases - like the 1/72 Tempest and the 1/72 Lavochkin La-5 - are smooth builds.

Sometimes, the box contains a re-box of old Smer/Heller moulds.

scalemates.com is a good source to identify the origin of the contents.
