John Masters
Here is the next in the brace...Special Hobby's 109G-6 kit with the very colourful markings of Yellow 5, Utti Finland, 1950. Now that Eduard is slowly releasing 1/72nd scale Messerschmitts I assume they will release these markings as well, since they've already done so in 1/48th. But until then, this is what we have. A quick glance at the sprue tells me that they are the same moulds as the AZModel G series. Thats good. No surprises. There is a bit of PE and, of course, very snazzy markings. Here's some box art... And the profile... The booklet has a better decal layout... The decals...Looking very nice. I'll jump in later... --John
John Masters
The SH and AZ kits are the same... --John
John Masters
There is more to this kit than the excellent AZ moulds. The PE pieces are nice and there is some excellent resin wheels and exhausts. I'll try to use as much of the photo etch as possible. Lots on the inside... --John
John Masters
The RLM66 looks good overall... The PE seatbelts are nice but in regards to scale I prefer the decals. Plus, no bending or having to paint them after the CA dries. --John
John Masters
The Finn takes shape in the typical manner. Little gap caused by the IP inside. No gaps elsewhere. The PE vents are awfully nice. Of course I bent one...you won't notice it when it is closed up. --John

Wings on, rudder on...no real issues. I had to attach small piece of plastic beneath the feet of the tropical filter. It didn't sit straight in the scoop and tilted inwards. --John
John Masters
Stabilizers on, cheeks attached. I think I'll mask the canopy tonight and attach that. I can begin the priming tomorrow and see where I need to fill... --John

John Masters
Thanks @Col. The canopy is masked and attached. Time for primer. This will show some gaps, especially around the 'cheeks'. These are already visible. --John
John Masters
OK, ok...no excuses. I let real life get in the way of what is truly important. I hope to get more paint on this weekend. For now it is the RLM76... The resolution is messed up. It is a smooth paint job. -John

John Masters
Grey Violet is one and I'll mask parts of that for the splinter camo...fuzzy photo, but you get the idea. --John
John Masters
Masked for the Black Green. I'll get that on this evening. --John
Torbjorn
Interesting looking thing - a bit odd that one side appears to be plain. One question - did you get any trouble closing the wing with the PE grilles in place? I have this box somewhere and that strikes me as a potential issue. It was an airbase Midsummer festival race scheme, where all the contestants flew in one direction around the airfield. Only the side facing the airfield was painted to help spectators differentiate them for the viewing distance. A very nice build, John! Not to worry @Torbjorn. I knew what you meant. I think this aircraft is quite famous for flying in one direction only-V-P has mentioned! Speaking of which...Some touch up will be needed around the canopy, and I need to add a little grey violet to where the fuselage roundel will sit. --John
vppelt68
Actually that starboard fuselage half should show 1) overpainted standard German balkenkreutz 2) overpainted Finnish 72cm Hakaristi-roundel 3) overpainted 50cm yellow fuselage theater band and 4) overpainted German swastika on the fin - and most of them might even have become partly visible again! Check the pic of MT-487 in the late -40's, that should tell more than my words. https://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Bf-109G/FAF/pages/Post-war-Messerschmitt-Bf-109G6Trop-Erla-FAF-MT487-unknown-unit-Stkz-KW+YG-WNr-166007-Finland-1953-01.html V-P
John Masters
Thanks for the link @vppelt68. That is a very grubby looking 109. I think the supplied decal has some faint printing that replicates some of the 'under markings'.
John Masters
Hand-painted swirly spinner. It'll need a little cleaning up on the edges, but for now it's ok. --John

John Masters
Done...peruse the gallery for more images. Also, I will try to build another kit before the GB ends.
