theplasticsurgeon
Joining you with this kit. A donation at Jet Age. Without its injection canopy - so we can't sell it. @Hepster has already built the Wildcat. Parts. Various aftermarket - including a VacForm canopy! These kit decals, for an all blue F6F-5. BUT I want to build as this 3 tone F6F-3, with leftover Italeri decals.

I may have some in the files. Dennis
theplasticsurgeon
With a few other projects on the bench, this might not achieve my usual pace. In the meantime here are my previous Hellcats - all in 1/72. First an Airfix, built 1988. Matchbox Hellcat, built 1998. Italeri FAA Gannet, built 2003. Then the same plastic from Revell, built 2008. It's time for another Hellcat!

Col.
I'm supposing this one has gone together with a characteristic Hasegawa ease and lack of fuss Tim? Nice progress.

theplasticsurgeon
So this afternoon some airbrushing. As with my other recent subjects in this scheme, Humbrol 28 underside.
Col.
Looks as if you've got a smooth coat of paint down there Tim
theplasticsurgeon
Underside masked, then airbrushed Humbrol 144 on the fuselage sides. I've just realised this GB header, has a quote from Captain Eric "Winkle" Brown, RN. I was fortunate enough to meet Eric Brown and his wife, at the opening ceremony of Jet Age in 2014. That copy of Eric's book WINGS on my sleeve, in my hand has an interesting story. I was lent it to read by my neighbour Carole, daughter of Bill Stewart. The late Bill Stewart was an aeronautical scientist who is mentioned in the book a couple of times. He was in a Sea Mosquito for a carrier landing, when the hook broke. Only Eric's skill kept the plane in the air - avoiding a catastrophy. The book was autographed by Eric for Bill, when originally published in 1961 - a valuable peice of history. I asked that if the opportunity arose at the opening ceremony, could I get it autographed again - which was agreed. And this was that opportunity! Eric was as sharp as a pin, well remembering his old friend Bill, taking great care to date the most recent autograph. Autographed twice, 53 years apart - it must be unique. I was hoping that the book would become mine, but non. A unique family heirloom for Carole's daughter, Becca - an aviation student who is very aware of its heritage.
Cookenbacher
Excellent anecdote about your double (triple) autograph Tim. The Hellcat also looks excellent.
theplasticsurgeon
So, more progress on the Hellcat. Firstly, fitted the vacformed canopy, then masked it, And airbrushed Humbrol 104, for the upper colour. And showing off the early 3-tone camo better.
theplasticsurgeon
Italeri decals. US Navy VF-27, BUT - just realised that I need full blue circle decals for a 3-tone plane - and nothing suitable in my spares. Something for me to look for at IPMS Avon show.
theplasticsurgeon
Undercarriage. And canopy framing. That wraps up construction for me. I'm hoping to find another Hellcat at Thornbury, to provide proper insignias for a 3-tone aircraft.

theplasticsurgeon
I acquired some bordered insignias yesterday. Huge thanks to IPMS Avon giving away their leftover decals at yesterday's show. Actually for a Hasegawa F4U Corsair, but the best I could find.

theplasticsurgeon
Rounding off with a photo of two 3-tone Hellcats together. Matchbox left, Hasegawa right. And finally 2 FAA Hellcats. Revell left, Italeri right. That's me signing off from this GB - thanks to those organising.
