Simon Cornes
I need something to simulate dome headed rivets - probably 1mm - 1.5mm diameter. I was thinking about brass panel pins but they don't have consistent domed heads. They don't need to be structural although I am also after some brass pins that would need to be structural to add schurzen. Any pointers would be appreciated, Thanks
Black Knight
One used to be able to buy 'rivet heads' as strips of decal on a sheet. They came in a great many sizes. There were also bolt heads, nuts, nuts with bolts coming through et cetera afair they were made by 'Archer' and Historex Agents in Kent sold them. I bought a couple of sheets for rivets on a 1/32 Ford T armoured car https://historexagents.com/#product-gallery Put 'rivets' in the search
JackG
For those areas where it's just for surface detail, as suggested above, there are decal sheets with row upon rows of resin rivets. Besides Archer, there might be some larger scale aircraft rivets that are suitable? If it requires the heads to have a body to them so as to join two parts together, MasterClub could be the answer. Their spherical rivets series offer a variety of head diameters, from 0.4mm to 1.8mm; regards, Jack
dnl42
Archer Fine Transfers does indeed sell rivet decals in various sizes and patterns. They also have weld lines and other such details. Here's an example And painted

John Tapsell
Masterclub do a huge selection of resin rivets and bolt heads. I've also used the Archer Fine Transfer system - particularly good if you need evenly spaced lines of rivets.
Simon Cornes
Thank you guys. The YouTube video was very interesting and in fact I made some similar rivets using Evergreen rod, radiused with a sanding stick and then push fitted into predrilled holes and pushed down to the same height, gauged by eye. That was okay for a back panel but as I now need to detail some schurzen side and turret armour I prefer the lazy mans approach to buying something off the shelf. I will check out Archer at Historex and Masterculb - Hannants? I've ended up buying some Masterclub 1.4mm rivets from Historex plus a box of watch repair nuts and bolts via eBay. Hopefully that lot should keep me going!!
s.e.charles
i understand the economy of time. maybe this could be useful to someone who clicks/ or finds this thread through search function. i was sceptical at first, but these results would work in some instances quite well:
