Smit Frankrijk Harbour Tug

Recommended Posts

It's been a while, 12 weeks ...

Mo and Jo left for Spain (don't tell Boris) bad enough but they left me behind :fight:.

Dipping my toe back in the water with an OOB build given to me by my good friend Dan.

This kit was first released in 1984 by Imai (never heard of them )

OOB didn't last long

Probably going to be displayed on a pedestal as a working tug.

Wanted the antifouling to look well, fouled......... So I thought I'd try the salt technique and several shades

I'm pleased with the final result

P1120050 (2)

P1120049

P1120048

P1120051

Hope you're all keeping well

Stay safe

Indeed it is. Fitted with Beckerman type rudders. The Kort nozzles direct the water flow over an aerofoil style rudder http://schilling-rudder.com/03_products/zzpics/sc_flap.jpg

As opposed to the Fairplay swiveling nozzle/props.

:hmmm:

Reminds me I have plans for early 1900's steam tug......

Glad you all approve of my bottom

Stay safe

Woohoo ! - Great to have you back Obi Wan

Love that anti-fouling (note my sobriety) - I think an OOB build would be psychologically imipossible ;)

Do hope that Mo and Jo can get a very early flight back home and dont have to isolate

Watching with interest and looking forwards to how you tackle the fenders:nerd:

I am going to enjoy seeing what you make of this kit. Hopefully it will restore your mojo. I shall lend my customary encouragement to help things along. Kev! Kev! Why has Longshanks just run screaming from the building? And I never even mentioned seagulls!

Do you think I can get a prescription for that malaise ....

As the man said the inside of the bulwarks were bare, couldn't let it pass. So numerous 0.3 sq bits of plastic later

P1120053

P1120054

Then the application of hull colour black grey. I feel pure black is  to strong at this scale

P1120057

Deck green

P1120061

P1120060

Thanks for all the kind comments and likes

No you can't. I have searched the entire Galaxy for such a cure, or at least one that does not leave the modeller totally incapacitated, without success. Now, you may say that I am strange (quiet in the cheap seats!) but the modellers that I am most envious of are those that are happy to build straight from the box. Like you Kev, I start a kit with the intention of building it OOB but then I see things I don't like so out comes the plastic stock and down the very slippery slope of no return I slide.

Looking good, Kev!

I prescribe this.  It works for all kinds of malaise.  :giggle:

Sadly, just for the tourists. Real outport stuff like Big Dipper will strip paint. Lovely stuff with a high muzzle velocity. 🙂

  • 2 weeks later...

Just pottering along and enjoying myself.....

Bridge windows are not glazed so I thought I'd try PVA + colour. Which colour do you think best?

P1120065

Weathering done on upper hull

P1120068

Props. Bronze plus verdis and black wash

P1120069

P1120071

I've been playing with fenders. Kit supplied look like inflatable rings

P1120074

P1120077

Take care and stay safe

Gidday, my personal preference would be clear if possible, but the that may require some internal work. Plan B - light grey. but that's just my thoughts, it's your model. Which is coming along very well, BTW. I like that underwater mottling and the bulwark ribs. Regards, Jeff.

Looking quite good!

BTW, this WIP used Kapton tape to ensure a flat exterior surface for glue-based windows. It seems the Kapton tape resists glue adhesion. I now have a roll and will experiment soon.

If you're going with tinted windows on the bridge, I like the green/blue colour in the upper right of your photo.

have to agree with John the blue/green has my vote.  👍

The windows themselves would be clear, but Solar blinds are quite common behind the windows, they would give a grey tint with a hint of gold.

Gidday, fair enough, and the blinds would save having a visible empty wheel-house. 👍 Unless a kitted out wheelhouse was desired. Oh, the options  .  .  . 🙂

     Regards, Jeff.
