IDF/AF F-16A Netz, 115 Dragon Sqn - Hasegawa 1/48 & F-16A Netz II 144 Phoenix Sqn - Kinetic 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hi. :D
Another weekend has come and gone again.
And some more plastic has been glued.

I've got the exhaust in place.
51320584560_9ac6dda5a6_4k.jpg066 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
The aft fuselage i rather flexible, so I clamed it to get the right shape to get the donut panel to meet the fuselage with as a minimal step as possible to get an even and smooth seam.

I've also sanded the wing-to-fuselage area.
51320587045_cb3ba717c6_4k.jpg067 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
I got a good seam on the upside, not so on the underside.
But I'll fix that with some PPP and water.

To be continued.....

you could just chop the fuselage off behind the wings and rotate 180...... no one would notice! :D

You could still chop the can off with a razor saw, just need to take your time. some thin sheet plastic card would make up for the lost plastic.

Or run some thick tape around the top part of it so it's level with the rear most part of the curves, then fill this area with filler and sand back, it's small so should be a simple fill job. The tape will give you a nice straight edge and don't worry about the underneath bit a that'll be hidden anyway.

Hhmmm 🤔

That might work.

I'll see if I'll give it a try.

Hi. :D

It's time do start working on the seems.
I didn't get the wings to join the fuselage with a perfect seam all around.
So I chose to have a good seam on the topside, and fix the underside with plasticard strips and putty.
51326871799_eea03a4b29_4k.jpg068 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
I filled the gap with a plasticard strip, and the drenched it with Tamiya Extra Thin.

And waited a few minutes, and cut away the excess plasticard.
51325414072_df78cbc175_4k.jpg069 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

The underside looks worse than the topside.
51327143645_ec39a90ae9_4k.jpg070 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
I'll fill these trenches with some PPP and wipe it with a moist tissue before the putty set fully.
It usually work fine.

And then I looked at the upside down exhaust and I couldn't live with it this way, so out with the saw. :D

I'll have some nasty seam to clean up later on.

Hi, and thanks Rich. :D

The gaps in the wings isn't that bad to fill.
I'll use PPP and a wet tissue to smooth out the putty and remove all excess.
Done right you don't even have to sand the putty afterwards.

I've now got the exhaust back in place.
But it will take some serious work to get this trench disappear.

I've started to fill it with some plasticard strips.
And I'll add some liquid sprue later today.

The gap on the topside isn't that bad, so I guess that just some liquid sprue here will be sufficient.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all. :D

I've been at the cottage for the last ten days.
So here's a report from my ongoing renovations of the cottage and some fantastic barbeques. :D

One thing I've always have wanted to try and see if I could do it is Tandoori Chicken.

Chicken breasts marinated for six hours in yougurt, indian spices, garlic and lemon juice.

Langoustine on the grill is another one.

Pork ribs are a favourite.
51353731486_328c53af1d_3k.jpg092 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

Another favourite is lambchops with a potato gratin and my wifes fantastic red wine sauce.

It's only Axel, my youngest son and I who like lamb in the family.
And he skipped dessert and took the last lamb chop instead. :D

Well, we didn't feast our way through the stay all days.
The cottage has finally received some new gable boards.

Which was celebrated with some very tasty Belgian cider.

And some crayfish later on.

Normally I follow the Olympics like a slave staying glued to the TV, but not this year.
This year I had to stream the radio broadcast via my mobile, like for the Mens Pole Vaulting finals.
51356923556_aa9d8bafd7_3k.jpg094 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And a Swedish Gold Medal in the Olympics was celebrated with a glass of Calvados and a piece of suitable chocolate.
51356927051_093974e4fc_3k.jpg096 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

I also did some online shopping during my vaccation, and I guess we can say that I've been bitten very hard by an F-16 Bug. :D

There's something about the F-16 and it's variants.

Every vacction comes to an end, and home again I can enjoy the rest of my vaccation at the worktable building my F-16, and Rafale M.
I still have a few more days at home before I go back to work on Thursday. :D

I've filled the gaps in the wing joints with PPP and wiped the excess off with a damp tissue before the putty had fully set.

51360565955_09b073c22f_3k.jpg102 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And I've puttied the gap I created when sawing the exhaust off.
51358804627_70a4d8de0d_3k.jpg103 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And some more online purchases arrived.
I found some chrome pens online that I'll try.
51361969670_7aa5f7d53f_3k.jpg104 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And then Sweden was playing Canada in the Womens football final in the Olympics.
Normally I don't watch football, but if Sweden is playing in the final, even I have to watch.
51361180498_ff771116c0_3k.jpg105 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
It was a very good match, but unfortunally Sweden lost, and "only" won the Silver Medal.

A two hour football match was just what I needed to clean up all the seams on my F-16.
51360202547_f63850ff60_3k.jpg106 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And then I glued the fin in place.

My intention was to only build one F-16 in this GB, but when I now has found a second A-version I thought I'll build this one as well.
And the second one will fittingly a Netz II.
Netz II is what the 50 used F-16A/B Block 5 & 10 that Israel got from the US as "a thank you for not getting involved" after the Gulf War in 1991.
And they flew in the original grey camouflage for some years before they were repainted in IDF/AF colours.
A grey IDF/AF F-16 is missing from my collection of IDF/AF F-16's

So let's build one.
I got a very extensive collection of IDF/AF decals and resin parts.
Netz II #752 will be my next, and tenth IDF/AF F-16.

51362732603_3f6b267463_3k.jpg110 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
Early stabilators from Isracast will be used in this build.

I've built one Kinetic F-16 before in the form of the F-16I Sufa.
But most of the parts are common among their kits.
The top fuselage is split in two to be able to use the same aft end with different front ends for the one and two seaters.
51364254329_299ebe6280_3k.jpg113 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
The kit is a Block 20 model, so I have some backdating to do.

Like these antennas that came with the MLU AM-version.

51363741788_d8201fad66_3k.jpg115 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

One thing I really dislike about Kinetics F-16's are the abundance of ejector marks everywhere, or even towers, like here on the INSIDE of the air intake.

Thankfully the plastic is really easy to sand, but why in the first place.....
51363558116_9ce294c91c_3k.jpg118 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

More work than so did I manage before my lovely wife said that dinner was ready.
51362201567_7f88cffd5e_3k.jpg112 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
A steak with fries and Sauce Bearnaise. :eat: :tasty:

And with that said, Netz II is on the way as well.

  • Marlin changed the title to IDF/AF F-16A Netz, 115 Dragon Sqn - Hasegawa 1/48 & F-16A Netz II 144 Phoenix Sqn - Kinetic 1/48

Hi. :D

Today have I've been busy at the worktable since it's the last day of my summer vacction.
And a few things have happened on my Netz.
I've glued four Sidewinder's for the Netz II together.
51371371343_a94d3b66e8_3k.jpg119 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
I had to "pinch" one pair from the XL-box, since you only get one pair in each Kinetic box.
But I'll not be using Sidwinder's on my Xl when I come to that build, so it doesn't matter.

Earlier this week I painted the Netz underside, brushpainted with Akan acrylics as usual.
51370382902_2e350ee73b_3k.jpg120 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

So let's flip it over and paint some Sand,
51371371628_4db652fc7d_3k.jpg121 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

and green,
51371143921_ea9d063486_3k.jpg122 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

and last some brown.
51371371803_ace518210e_3k.jpg123 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And a second coat of them.
51371987768_23cfff4d6f_3k.jpg124 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

I'll now let the paint set for at least a day before I'll put the third coat on.
To be continued.....

Hi, :D

My Netz is almost ready for a clear coat.
But I've run out of FS 36270, so I'd have to send an order for more paint from my supplier of Akan Acrylics, Hobby Paint n' Stuff in Helsinki.

So while I wait for the paint to arrive I've been working on the Netz II.
Kinetics kit comes with full lenght airintake, that also doubles as the main landing gear bays.
51389800805_306117c26c_4k.jpg125 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
I've painted it white with more layers than I remember.

Then I deceided to try out my new liquid chrome pens.
51389039108_fa9c771e15_4k.jpg126 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

I tested the 3mm pen on the cone of the compressor fan.

51389525849_7118e8504d_4k.jpg129 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
And I'd say that this pen delivers what it promise.
So I'll continue use it on such parts as hydraulic arms, review mirrors etc.

Then I glued the whole package to the fuselage.
51389039638_6078e5d39f_4k.jpg130 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And this is how far I've come, but I'll have the whole weekend to do some more.
To be continued.....

Hi and thanks Rich. :D
The shelf over the Tv houses my IDF/AF Ahit collection.
I've build four so far, and I think I've got at least five more in the stash.
Now that I've returned to building IDF/AF I might start an A-4 soon again.

As for the Netz's I received my ordered paint flask of Akan Acrylics from Hobby Paint n' Stuff in Helsinki.
51391710810_94bc375904_4k.jpg194 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
And you don't just order one bottle. I ordered what I think I'll be needing the comning six months.

And I "accidentally" went clicking around at that webstore in Poland once again....

You can't have too many F-16's, can you?
One of these will be a Norwegian F-16 toting Penguin missiles in the upcoming Nordic II GB I think.
The other one I'd planned for an IDF/AF F'16B Netz since it's missing from my IDF/AF collection.
But Axel pursuaded me to do the Taiwansese in stead.
And after he showed me that Taiwan has armed their F-16's with Harpoon missiles I was sold.
So a Taiwanese F-16B will be built some day in the future.

As for my ongoing Netz builds Axel and I had planned a build weekend together, since the wife and daughter had gone to the cottage for a girls weekend together with some friends of Anne's.

But Axel said lets not build, lets clean up the mess around our work tables instead.
Said and done, since it hadn't been cleanded for some time, years I think.
So first we emptied my work table
51392718097_8369e4c455_4k.jpg131 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

All the kits I have stored under my desk was spread around the livning room.

And when all was dusted and vaccumed we put them back in a better order.

51397343679_fbc1e8271f_3k.jpg136 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And my ongoing builds where put back on the on the side tables.
51394496445_725c582d6f_4k.jpg137 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

When our cleaning session was over we celebrated with a pizza on the balcony. :eat: :tasty:
51393746653_817031724b_4k.jpg138 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And with a much cleaner work table I could continue working on my Netz II.
