Bonhoff
Hi All, As per the title, we have the 21st Century Toys kit of the G14, this apparently started life as a pre-finished model before being released as a kit. This would explain the construction methods which includes screws as well as the "play" items included such as retractable undercarriage, opening canopy and pilot with movable head and arms. Plus (I can feel the envy already) Movable leading edge slats! I understand that they were sold for very little money through Home Bargains? Work started on the cockpit, all the parts are supplied bagged with no sprues in sight. Praise should be given for the quality of the pilot figure - Head and arms have been attached Thanks for looking IanJ
Johnson
Interesting kit. Cockpit looks OK. Have fun!
Col.
Another interesting kit. The antithesis to an Eduard or more so the likes of Zoukei-Mura yet no less valid
PeterB
I have come across a couple of "models" from this manufacturer in one of my SAM guides - both 1/32 109F and also a 1/18 G, and although not quite the usual model, being more intended as a toy, the reviewer seems to have been quite impressed, particularly as they were cheap. In the review of the F-2/4 he mentions that the barrels of the underwing gondola mounted cannon were "flexible plastic" presumably to stop youngsters breaking them off easily, but as he says they can be replaced with metal tube easily enough! Scalemates makes no mention of the 1/18th kit so that could be a printing error? They seem to have made an 109F, reboxed also as a G, a Macchi Folgore also boxed as a Veltro, a Zero and a F4U Corsair. Can't say I have ever come across any before so I will watch with interest. Bonhoff
Think there was a Stuka as well - Have got the Zero in the stash too. Both purchased from "under the tables" at exhibitions. IanJ
Bonhoff
What follows now is pretty much all the pictures taken during the build. I'll add notes along the way... Radiator grilles added using PE ship handrails, I also altered the outlines of the wheel wells to hopefully match the "G" model better. Wing uppers added and roots glued - Pilot painted. Pilot The main fixing is carried out with small screws which then have plastic plugs inserted over the top - These became a major pain as I went through a number of fill - sand - prime - check cycles, using any number of different fillers until I was slightly happier with the finish. Then it was time for priming. Preshade plus RLM 02 where needed. Gunze RLM 76 to fuselage and undersides. RLM 74/75 to upper surfaces and mottle. Undercarriage in 02, oleo chromed with a Molotow pen. Decalling started (2 separate sheets in the kit, 3 schemes plus stencils), which laid down well using Set and Sol. Even the black spiral on the spinner! And completed... I still need to take better pictures for the Gallery so hopefully get those sorted by end of play next weekend. What can I say about the kit? It's obviously toylike in the nature of its construction and the panel lines would give 70's kit trenchlines a run for their money, but some of the parts were nicely executed and it was an enjoyable build. Plus I bet none of yours have retractable undercarriage and slats! IanJ
Jasper dog
Nice work, that's come out really well! Used to have the Macchi in the stash years ago, can't remember what happened to that now, might have to go for a rummage on the strength of your 109! Cheers Darryl
