Corsairfoxfouruncle
Well I tried but the budget just wasn't there for it. So Im going with an F-2 instead of the A.N.G. F-16 I had hoped for. The markings are of the 3rd Squadron, the longest serving Squadron in JASDF history. Somehow I goofed and didn't get the third sprue in the photographs. Its there trust me. I will snap a photo and post it later when I can open the box up. I will be doing the single seat F-2A as the few F-16’s I’ve done have all ben two seaters. I happen to love the JASDF SEA SCHEME. It is just one of the coolest looking camouflage schemes. Ive done an F-104 in it and plan on an F-4 and F-1 at some point in the scheme. Ive even considered doing a Whif of an F-22 and F-35 in the scheme I like it that much. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Ok lets try round two, I took the sprue trees out that are in the photo's above. Hopefully I haven't missed anything ? Dennis
trickyrich
welcome along Dennis with the first F-16 on steroids.... an F.2. You sort of had me worried with your first post as there was only 1 sprue in the shot.... I though there may have been some sad tale about how the rest was lost....... but only just the pictures. This build of your's may actually tempt me into getting one of these (in 1/48th) for the stash/retirement build fund! Good luck with her. 1
helios16v
Nice Dennis. I love the JASDF SEA scheme. I've got a couple 48th builds planned in that scheme, an F-2A and a F-4JE Kai. Look forward to your progress. I can send you some 1/48 F-2 sprue porn @trickyrich. You know you want too. 1

Miko
Mine is going together really well, looking forward to seeing you get this one together Miko (difficult to copy your work if I'm ahead of you in the build! Ha!)

I really shouldn't start more builds until these are moving forward.

Corsairfoxfouruncle
Good morning everyone … well for a build that started a year ago, I just put paint to plastic today. I will be building it as the A variant as Ive only done two seat F-16’s in the past. If you look there is a strip of white plastic strip behind the seat/under the turtle deck.there was about a 1mm gap there so a couple 1/2 inch strips sealed that up. I will build up the rest of the fuselage tomorrow and then all of my aircraft builds (11) will be into sanding, filling, re-scribing, and polishing. Not that it will need much weight as most seems to be forward of the main gear. The instructions call for 5 grams I used 8/.25 oz. Not glued together yet just mocked up. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Good morning everyone … Well I hate to say this but I hate this kit. I love the F-2 as an aircraft but once again Hasegawa quality is suspect at best. Since I came back to modeling 7 years ago almost every Hasegawa kit Ive dealt with has had some bad fit and poor design issues. The worst part of this one so far is the Intake comes in multiple pieces and nothing aligns. Of course Hasegawa didn't include any pins or alignment tabs. The second part is the speed-brake flaps either side of the exhaust didn't want to close up. I suspect the poly grommets Hasegawa insist on using for the movable stabs are oversized and thats causing the issue. To add to all my other fun, I accidentally flooded the nose with Tamiya extra thin and of course left a fingerprint. Not sure how I will sand that off while keeping the very tiny raised structural supports on the surface ? There are five or so very faint supports that run the whole length about the size of human hair in this scale ? Not the five antenna’s in front of the cockpit but what looked like raised panel lines. Wings unlevel
Sounds like the Fine Molds F-2 kit can’t come fast enough!
helios16v
Sorry to hear of the struggles w/ the kit. I remember the intakes being a bit fiddly on the Diana twins (and requiring a little putty). I don't recall any issues at the rear, though I know I didn't install any grommets...now I wonder if that was a kit change (assuming the kept the same design throughout the F-16 line) or simply me overlooking something in the instructions....probably the latter.
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Well I spent the night filling and putting the rest of this together. Other than the intake and the damn Exhaust its an OK kit. I will get into the exhaust issue a little later. But here is where I am so far. She will be going into paint tomorrow or Tuesday after a clean rubdown with alcohol. The horizontal stabs are off for ease of masking and painting. Now while doing clean up I broke one of the yaw sensors off the side of the nose. So I removed the complete one and the remains. After everything else was done I cut a length of stiff brass wire and drilled out where the original piece's were. They shouldn't break now, may stick me like a needle but wont break. Now for the exhaust, I followed the instructions which are clearly WRONG. Don't make the mistake I did or you will end up with a boob in your burner can ! Here are the instructions and Ive circled the offending bit in red. Now you can see where they tell you to place the flame ring inside. NOW if you do this in this way you will get what I have ! Doesn't look so bad does it, well wait here’s a close-up. It fills the entire inside of the burner can ! If you build this kit move the ring in to the inner mold line (blue), not the rear like they tell you too ! Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or thoughts. Dennis PS - I have an F-22 Raptor and Im tempted to do it as a WHIF Japanese bird in the same camouflage as this ? Only thing I need are decals.

helios16v
Paint it up nice an dark inside the tailpipe, that way it won't stand out so much. I avoided this by a fluke as I had some resin cans on hand for the A models. Just dumb luck really...I probably would've fallen into the same trap.
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Good morning everyone … Well the primer coat on this is on. I used Tamiya X-14 as a base. The Lighter blue I have for the Sea scheme is a touch too grey in my opinion and this will hopefully pop the color to the right tone. Or its going to he a spectacular fail ? Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts. Dennis Edited May 19, 2022 by Corsairfoxfouruncle
stevehnz
Thanks for the tip on the burner rings Dennis, I have a couple of these, for an A & a B. If you haven't already spotted it, have a look on Scale Mates Hasegawa F-22 page, they boxed a one as a Ocean Scheme number back in 2014, maybe possible to hunt one down. Steve.

Thank’s Steve I probably got the idea for the F-22 by seeing a photo somewhere online. You're welcome on the warning, I would hate too see anyone else make this cock-up.
