Max89
Does anyone know what the externally visible differences are between the F-89 B and D variants? Excluding of course the obvious differences in the longer nose and wingtip rocket pods on the D. Were there any differences in the wings, tail, fuselage, gear, etc? Sabrejet
The two which spring to mind are the jet pipe deflector plates: these changed shape at various times. Also the 'sugar tong' elevator balances. Not sure what the fit/lack of was but I recall they were field-installed on some early models.
Jure Miljevic
Hello Air intakes for cooling radio and electrical equipment had been installed on fuselage sides just behind the wing trailing edge of D-models. I think these had been added while the type was already in service, though. Cheers Jure
