Westland Whirlwind F1

Recommended Posts

Special Hobby 1/32nd scale Westland Whirlwind.

This kit is an amazing piece of work by Special Hobby!

An incredible level of detail.

Special Hobby have produced a kit that has taken quite a leap forward than their earlier releases.

It still has some issues getting a perfect fit in places, but it is generally a good fit.

This is an out of the box build, all I added was a set of seat belts from Eduard, otherwise there is plenty of detail in the cockpit just OOB.

Painted with Mr Color acrylics.

A fun build.

Cheers

Really stunning job. The weathering is in that sweet spot where it compliments the model rather than taking centre stage.

As with some of the above responders, this is the first of this kit that I've seen built.

Your work is exemplary - she looks brilliant!

Well done!

Very impressive.

I've been contemplating having another go at the Airfix 1/72 kit. I've had one in the stash for years and have a number of aftermarket upgrade sets for it.

I've always liked the Whirlwind which had great potential but was let down by its engines. In my mind, it paved the way for the ground attack Mosquitoes that came later in the war.

I recently visited Moreton in Dorset which is right next door to the former RAF Warmwell, where Whirlwinds operated for a while.
