Nachtwulf
I know nothing about the Sterling. Does it have the same wing as the Sunderland? I had never noticed how broad the chord was before seeing the picture in the link above.

alt-92
Nice to see those collector rings in different variants used - some single, some double.
Graham Boak
Not the same wing: the Sunderland wing is larger than the maximum span of 100 ft required by B12/36. There was only one standard of collector ring, but I suspect that we are seeing rings of different ages.

There was a slight difference in collector rings: there was the earlier one and the later one with the extra bit on the front to blow air over the ring to cut down on the hot glow, to help hide aircraft that flew at night. Graham Boak
Indeed, but you don't see the former on the Stirling. or at least production ones. They will have all been the later standard. Going further, I suspect that there were modified versions of both of these, not counting the differences for each basic engine. But not really relevant here? What I noticed was this: https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205188248 Clearly visible front baffle on a later model - hedgehog exhaust compared to this: https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205210166 and this: https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205123799 No clearly visible front baffle on early versions -smooth exhaust. It's just an observation. No more.
dogsbody
In the first photo the alt-92 posted, you can see the baffle on the inboard engine, but there isn't one on the outboard engine. Chris
