This topic has been running since Sunday  elsewhere on the forum

This thread here seems to be more about modelling and decals!

Apart from decals, nearly any single seat Typhoon kit should be suitable, no?

Maybe apartfrom the very old Italeri ~prototype ones in 48th...

I'm not really a fan of the scheme, from pics I've seen the black appears to be a matt finish which just doesn't look right to me. Would have been much nicer in a gloss black finish, not sure if this couldn't be done due operational reasons with the jet.

Quite sure Xtradecal will be along with this and other 2021 display schemes.

looks rather sleek and stylish to me!

the external tank does definitely not add to the scheme though :(

and rather smokey at times too! wonder if the weather was to blame....

hope those decals materialise soon! :)

I watched the Typhoon on the three days of the Midlands air festival (both aircraft in the team also turned up on the Thursday for a "look-see", which was a real bonus). Very impressive and I liked the new scheme.

Each to their own, and plenty of others don't like it either. Personally I'm just glad that a special scheme has been done at all. We will never reach a consensus on the best possible scheme, but I'm sure most would agree that the Typhoon's standard livery (along with most other military aircraft) is pretty drab!

For what it's worth, I'm not keen on this paint job either, it looks like it was done by committee with everyone having a say??? a regular over all Union Jack without the dark bits or the self contained UJ's on the canards . .  .and, if you're gonna put a roundel on the tail, then why not lose the UJ and go with over all RAF light blue with a huge D type top and bottom a bit like the RAF ensign! Now that would look cool!!

Miko (nice to see 29sqn doing the honors this year)

:rofl2:(too many cooks and no imagination!)

Anyone know what the best matches for the black part of the paint scheme are?

Xtradecal suggest BS642 Night Black from their own ranges.

Have a look at the images in the link above!

But I suggest any satin black with a drop of grey will do!

To me it is not fully gloss black...

Ah thanks.

I'd missed the fact there was more than one image on there 🤦‍♂️

Yeah. It's definitely not a gloss black. Might be a case of experimenting and seeing what's right.

Thanks for the suggestion on the drop of grey.

With this scheme I can't help thinking that they reached the canards and said, "You know what this needs? More Union Jacks! Except maybe fluttering so it looks like we're not completely out of ideas."

Reminds me of that Not The 9 O'Clock News where Rowan Atkinson's character keeps adding more toilets to his bathroom design. "Bit of a gap here..."
