To rivet count, or not to rivet count, that is the question.

If I do get a negative comment,

Depends on how you define "negative". Something along the lines of "the Dragon M-50 is a couple of mm too long" is to me helpful rather than negative, and something that perhaps can be acted upon. But something like "that's the wrong colour and just doesn't look right" does come across as negative. I suppose, to a certain extent, it all depends on when the comments are being made. If it's during a WIP and the mistake can be rectified, then that is something positive. But when someone starts pointing out a string of mistakes after somebody has posted his/her latest masterpiece, IMO, that doesn't help one bit.

My personal opinion is that constructive criticism should be confined to wip's, as that's where things can (possibly) be altered. A finished item in RFI is the culmination of that modeller's hard work, irrespective of whether it is child like or museum quality. The old adage of "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" applies.

As I understand it, those are exactly the rules in place on this site.

However, on the other side of the argument, once a  model is placed on display it is there forever as a guide on how to do things, and could be propagating faults into the future.  Only saying nice things is fine for socialising but no help with improvement.  "That wheel is a great invention, Joe, but it would go better if it was round."  "You rivet-counters are all negative!"
