Thinning Humbrol Clearfix

Recommended Posts

I think I may have discovered a thinner for Humbrol Clearfix
Its Evo-Stik Adhesive Cleaner.
I use this Adhesive Cleaner for thinning neoprene contact adhesive
I had half a bottle of Humbrol Clearfix which had thickened and was no longer useable. I put some of this into another glass bottle and added some Evo-Stick Adhesive Cleaner. No measure - just an amount to see what would happen.
Over 24 hours I occasionally shook the bottle and set it right-side up, up-side down, on its left side etc (its a square bottle)
This evening when I checked it the Clearfix had thinned and is now useable.

Humbrol says the Clearfix has a solvent base, although it smells a bit like PVA
In the past I've tried to thin it with
1. water
2. meths
3. IPA
4. cellulose thinners
5. acetone
6. pure turpentine
7. Dial (of B&Q) brush restorer

Yesterday I used the thinned Clearfix to glue an injection moulded canopy to a piece of plastic kit ( the base of an Airfix Multi-pose figure)
The Clearfix worked as it should and today I separated the two parts and peeled the Clearfix off, just the way the fresh stuff can be
