North-American P-51D Mustang - 1/72 Airfix

Hi,

 

Please find here another Airfix P-51D Mustang.

This was my second Airfix Mustang and I still enjoy to build it (there is a third one coming in RFI and maybe more).

I had to change the landing gear though as they were bent beyond repair.

Decals are from Lifelike. They were very pleasant to use.

Thank you.

For the panel lines, I use a mixture of black oil paint and white spirit (over a layer of acrylic gloss varnish from Gunze).

What did you use as replacement landing gear? Those in my kit are warped badly and I'd like to know what could be used as a replacement.

With regards to the landing gear, I first wrote to Airfix to get replacement. I'm still waiting for them... Then I moved to using Scale Aircraft Conversion replacement.  They were also a bit wraped when they arrived but at least you can straighten them with no (less) fear of breaking them. I'm not an expert in white metal so I would just say that they do the job. In the end, I was happy with the result. 😀

That's an excellent job on your Airfix Mustang and you have kept the weathering to a minimum which always looks better in my opinion

This. The gear on this kit was atrocious. 

 

Overall though your model looks great!
