Steben
I've experimented with mixing XF-59 desert yellow and XF-49 khaki and got a very pleasant outcome. I started with 2 x XF-49 anf 1 x XF-59 and ended up with a close match tot the first DG variant listed in Chory's book. With the addition of more XF-59 I passed RAL 7027 and ended up with the second DG variant. Use at own device Most will think it is too dark (for modelling) but I leave that to scale effect discussions. The swatches of Chory are based on real tools and vehicles. Yet ... I will try to explain once more. We can only communicate with photographs on the internet. It would be better for all to see each other in real life with real colour cards. But that does not work. Photographs have 2 different qualities: 1. They never ever replicate what you or I see in real life. 2. They rarely show the real thing worse than our eye-brain processing. Cameras process pictures because they have to correct diapragm, light brightness etc.... They do capture the light however as it is. Colours are different with different light and angle. Only humans can process what they see and try to "recognise" the real colour. Having said that ... the difference in hue bewteen different 7028 in your picture of Historycolors is repeated in Chory's swatches. What you rate as "too brown" is the difference in light conditions. That's why I showed two different pictures in which all the same colours are different. Chory's swatches are based on real life objects and vehicles. The fact they mostly (not all) match modern RAL numbers is an eye opener. On the pictures above 7003, 7021 and 8017 all are matches. But don't look like that to my eyes in real life. I might post some other pictures later with even more different light. Edited May 23, 2021 by Steben
