Popular Post Notty
The most expensive kit with the most extras I’ve ever tackled. Painted in mostly Alclad airframe aluminium but weathered with the kitchen sink. Master Details pilots navigator & radio operator, brass gun barrels, magic scale modelling light & sound kit, brassin resin wheels. If you decide to watch the video at the end be sure to turn the sound up! Thanks for looking. She’s a bit of a modelling cliche but I love the scheme so here’s my main reference pic: couple of views from before I sealed her up Here she is in action 107
echen
I guess that you need to take care not to rev the engines up to max or she takes off? 2
John_W
Very nice. I wish I had the room (and the funds) for one myself.

The beauty of this kit is the ingenuous wall mount it comes with. I’m doing another one to go next to it as, and get this, my wife said it looked silly next to the picture & would look better next to another one!

Snafu35
Hello, Notty She is magnificent! My dream is to have a B17 at 1/32nd, but the size calms me down a bit; Thanks to you I live this wish by proxy. the aluminum aspect is very well rendered, the weathering is remarkable. I like the oil drips under the engines. And you have motorized AND sounded it! My only remark concerns the fatty streaks at the outlet of the heat exchangers on the upper surface: The Wright engines "piddle off" the oil flowing on the upper surface, then these trails move away from the flow of air vomited by these heat exchangers. But It is not much compared to your effort. Congratulations, Notty! Regards, Eric-Snafu35 Edited May 20, 2021 by Snafu35
Spitfire31
The wow factor is high with this one. Kind regards, Joachim

spruecutter96
She is an absolute beauty! Doing a heavily-weathered, NMF B-17 takes a huge amount of skill and I would say you have done a superb job. The attention to detail is remarkable. Thanks for sharing with us. Cheers. Chris.

Hi Eric thanks for the feedback. I’m doing another one so I want to make sure I get it right this time; if you can point me at any photos showing this effect that would be great. I did have to do a bit of guesswork based on the photos I could find. Most pics on the web are b&w or models!

It was a first for me and I didn’t really know what to do to make it look like the original. Made heavy use of Uschi splatter masks using v.thinned deck tan/khaki/smoke mixes in different strengths & passes for the sandy looking dirt on parts of the airframe with actual oils for the oil streaks & engine dirtying. I learned a lot. This kit is an absolute huge canvas for weathering, and I learned how much relative effort is worth it for inside/outside now I know what’s visible. Olive drab version next!
