Last Pistons...1/48 Lavochkin La-11 "Fang", 911th IAP Soviet Airforce

Sehr schön!

Bitte entschuldige die "Kritik" aber das rote Flugzeug ist kein Kunstflugzeug.Einige in der Russischen Arktis stationierte La-11 wurden Kirschrot lackiert um besser gesehen zu werden.🙂

Please excuse the "criticism" but the red aircraft is not from a aerobatic team. Some La-11 based in the Russian Arctic were painted cherry red to increase visibility.

Grüsse

Giampiero

so, decided its´gonna be the all red scheme of 911th IAP in 1949

started with the cockpit, detail is a little sparse, no sidewall detail and only decals for the instruments

Looking good so far. Was the closed up cowling a mechanism for dealing with the Russian winter?

Regards,

Adrian

Thanks.

Can be seen on several Soviet radials. Could be opened or closed for cooling and against freezing. The I-15/16 had this system, I think the La-5 and -7 too, also the Yak-11 trainer.

The kit comes with a solid wing, but there are two clear parts provided for the landing light cover and you can cut out the wing. There are not many online pics of La-11, some seem to have no landing light, some only an underwing cover and a solid upper side....my dad decided to do a full clear landing light cover. Both clear parts together don´t match the wing thickness so he had to put a piece of plastic sheet between the two parts. Furthermore he simulated the light by using a plastic rod stuck into the wing.

I'm disappointed with the lack of cockpit detailing but I'm greatly enjoying this build.

Also enjoying the build - great work so far :)

The kits I got from Russia came pre-packaged with Quinta 3D decals for the IP, consoles and belts.

decals mostly applied

they are very thin and tend to wrap, happened so to one of the cowl "La-11" decals

due to a heatwave, the paint is still a bit sticky and my dad thinks he won´t get the already applied decal completely off again without having to sand and repaint

gonna wait for the hopefully soon to be lreleased Begemot La-9/-11 decals which include a red scheme, which also wears a fuselage number and looks more attractive
