USB chargeable mini airbrushes

Recently I’ve been seeing adverts on social media for mini airbrushes using a usb charger and hand held mini compressor. This is one I’m posting as a random example which seems to be similar to others I’ve seen.

As a piece of kit for an occasional modeller like me who can’t justify a conventional set up, are they any good and do they give better results than say a rattle can?

Dual action and with a battery life of about an hour, these seem too good to be true?

Anyone with experience of one of these?

A few things would bother me:

  1. Quality of manufacture and battery reliability for the price-point
  2. Can you get close to your model with that big battery in the way?
  3. Is the airflow smooth or pulsing?
  4. I'd also want to know what sized needle it uses, and whether you can get spares/different sized needles

If you just want it as a miniature spray-gun to put down big swatches of one colour, it could be a goer if you can get answers to those questions.  If you wanted to try out some paint effects like modulation and whatnot where you need fine control and to get close to your subject matter, it might not be all that much use.

For £31 though, even if it's not much good, you've not wasted too much money :)

Hmm....reviews are mixed but the blurb for many of them say the compressor is interchangeable with others so maybe hang it on a decent brush??

I’ll keep looking.

They clearly don’t have much faith in their own product - they pitch it at nail art but the only picture of nail painting they show is using a traditional hairy stick 😀

Cheers,
