1/72 Eastern Express Yakovlev Yak-9D

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow Britmodellers,

here's my 1/72 Eastern Express Yak-9D (a rebox of the Dakoplast moulds), painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics.

Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel.

I added Extratech photo-etch for interior details, antenna mast and landing gear doors.

The sliding hood is a vacu part from Rob Taurus.

The kit wheels which are slightly oversized were replaced with Reskit resin parts.

Decals from the box worked surprisingly well and represent the aircraft of Mikhail Ivanovich Grib of 6.IAP in 1944.

Simply BEAUTIFUL

I have few of them and somehow...they did not wake my interest in building them. After seeing your work ..... I want to start one of them.

Colors and weathering are excellent, and whole model looks superb!

best regards

Djordje

Excellent result! Looks very interesting in grey-grey scheme.  I think the same "22" machine was in box of old Airfix Yak-9 with previous wrong  interpretation of colors (brown/green), you gave this scheme new life!

Hello Jerzy,

thank you very much for feedback.

As reference, I used "Sowjetische Fliegerasse 1941-1945", Waldemar Trojca, VDM Verlag.

On P 361-363 there are several original photographs of this aircraft, plus biography of the pilot, Maj. Grib.

"22" has been featured in various kits and on aftermarket decal sheets. It's a 'famous' Yak!

Beautiful job on HSU Grib's machine! Miko, the reason Soviet aircraft did not have stars on top of the wings was to make them less conspicuous on the ground for any marauding Axis aircraft.

wonder why they didn't have red stars on the wings? Unlikely to be mistaken for anything else maybe?

Miko

When war started on eastern front Soviet airplanes have stars on top of wings, then with time they did not paint them to make masking on airfields easier.

Hi Again My Friend Roman!!!!

Have been watching this beauty....without question you have got all the essence to build Soviet aircraft and specially the Yak birds as have watched since our first encounters here... I still remember the very first post from  your builds I watched was for one Yak Recon bird... but you have got evolution about the techniques and photography quality as time goes by.

In this case the paint,  finish and weathering as usual, nice techniques you use...maybe one of these days you could give me a nice masterclass about the way you work to understand in better way how you work to get that nice finished products.

Well, this beauty is a nice inspiration source and one of these days if time permits, will try my hand with one of them. while,  enjoying how you displayed the nice  techniques and craftsmanship in each of your builds as this one!!!

Thank you very much for sharing!!!

Cheers,

Luis Alfonso
