I think I can squeeze this one in...

I have better decals than the Airfix contribution so I may use those.

The kit decals are excellent.  I'll save the fancy sheet for another day!

Great stuff John

Best of luck with this one.

Thanks Pat.  I'll have to rename it a bit...I found some very nice resin pieces in the box and the kit decals are in excellent shape.

  • John Masters changed the title to Airfix BAC Strikemaster...almost OOB...
  • John Masters changed the title to Airfix BAC Strikemaster...OOB...as it should be!

Changed my mind again!  After looking at the box contents and then the calendar, I figured, 'Why not?'  Straight OOB it shall be!  None of this fancy resin or whatnot from foreign parts.  Goode olde English mouldings...

Bag o' stuff...

Nifty decals...

One of these are on my wants list

OK.  Just so you know, I found my first surprise.

The cockpit area is fine...

Looking ahead to the next stage, I decided to clean up the fuselage halves.  I discovered this...

Funny looking rudder...looks like they ran out of plastic.  I guess I will have to use a little plasticard to fix it up.  I hope that's the last of the 'surprises'.

The basic cockpit will suffice.  I'll give it some Sea Grey afterwards and pick out the IP dials with a hairy brush and black.  This is what i have seen images of, at least.

I also did the nose lights.  Note the piece of lead for the weight. I did not forget it this time!

The rudder fix...Instead of connecting the card piece to the odd shaped rudder, I attached it to the positive piece and it fits like a puzzle.

Once the fuselage halves are one, I will use some Milliput to fill in the remaining gap and sculpt any detail.

Those two fuselage halves with different shaped rudders looked like they came from two different kits for different variants. I must have a look at the kits I’ve got tucked away!

That's what I thought.  Every profile I have seen is the same...the larger rudder is correct.  I think they ran out of plastic.

For what it's worth...play by play...

A ball of Milliput and the problem...

51180874298_39ef65835e_c_d.jpg

The solution begins.  I will let that dry overnight and then sand and sculpt a bit and fill with PPP if needed.

51180874238_a765301948_c_d.jpg

And some other building.  This is really a lemon of a kit.  Poor moulding, weird, small gaps...It will require a fair amount of filler and fettling to achieve the desired result.

Still, it is looking alright as a labor of love.  I have the more recent Airfix Jet Provost and I will build that eventually.

True but that's what modeling is all about isn't it.

I agree.  It's always a good reminder that not all kits are designed by Eduard...

I am using some of the Vallejo US Vietnam Era paint scheme.  It has a nice light grey, dark green, light green and tan.
