AdrianMF
My first entry: No decals. I’m going to print civil Yugoslavian decals for it. My fourth Po-2 of the year! Regards, Adrian

Floor, seats, control columns, pedals, instrument panels and shelf pretty much fell together! AdrianMF
A very enjoyable session: It fits very well and I’ve cleaned up a lot of the smaller bits. I had to sand the rudder down to get rid of a sink mark so I’ve reinstated the tapes from Solartrim and undercoated it. Quite a few parts, like the underwing skids, will be replaced with card and rod. I’m going to add a bit of filler underneath and in a couple of small sink marks, and call it a day. Sanding tomorrow hopefully.
AdrianMF
Well I didn’t intend to put the struts together: I was only going to stick on the Venturi tubes but hey-ho. It all seems well aligned so I will leave it to dry overnight.
TonyW
You are on your fourth Po2 of the year, I have never heard of the plane. That probably goes to prove something or other, but I can't make the link. It's a nice looking aircraft and it seems it's responding well to your usual magic. I'm looking forward to a group shot at some point.
stevehed
It's not a bad kit being that it looks like what it says on the box and is usually a decent price. As well as decades of Po2 service to choose from it also has whif potential.

It is apparently the most-built biplane ever, with close to 30,000 being made, and just in the top ten built of any sort. But surprisingly obscure for all that. 3 hours ago, stevehed said: It's not a bad kit I’ve really enjoyed building all the kits. Two IOMs were rougher than (but derived from) this KP kit, and the ICM kit is sublime (as long as you aren’t building it over a shaggy carpet). I think I’ve chosen a new scheme - Finland captured some, so my Finnish Blenheim will get some company! Regards, Adrian
malpaso
In the book Glasmoth a story is related about how a supposedly typically dim Russian border guard, was asked by the UK pilots whether he’d seen a plane like a Tiger Moth before? Of course, we have the U-2 (another designation of the Po-2). Ho Ho say the Brits, he’s confused by a US reconnaissance jet. In reality the joke should have been on the Daily Mail sponsored Moth pilots for their ignorance! Looks like another nice biplane model, if only I didn’t have a big enough stash I might look for a Po-2...

Apparently the name was only changed from U-2 to Po-2 after Polikarpov died, in a rather belated show of gratitude. Regards, Adrian

modelling minion
Really nice work Adrian. You are doing a very good job on this one, you can tell you have some Po-2 experience under your belt.
AdrianMF
Well it was fiddle morning this morning. Control horns made and fitted, underwing skids thinned down and fitted, undercarriage fitted (I am going to replace the axle and use the wheels left over from building the IOM kit on skis). I only dislodged one set of interplane struts and I realise I still haven’t stuck on the fuselage cranks for the elevators: But after the cranks, it’s time for paint! I can do the engine later. [edit] While I’m in the mood for fiddling, some more engine detail:
PlaStix
Well your modelling work is really paying off!! Looking fantastic. Lovely detailing and I'm looking forward to seeing it with the paint going on. Kind regards, Stix
AdrianMF
Well I’ve got the fuselage cranks on now. Spent several minutes on hands and knees looking for the second one on the floor (I’m a firm believer in gravity), gave up and only then found it hiding on a thick yellow line on my cutting board. 2

Learstang
Nice work on that Kukuruznik*, Adrian! It may be obscure in the West, but it certainly wasn't in the East. The name was changed from 'U-2' to 'Po-2' in 1944, upon Nikolaiy Polikarpov's death. In Russian sources, it's still commonly referred to as the 'U-2'. Regards, Jason *'Corn-cutter', or something like that, in Russian.
AdrianMF
Well, around this time last year, I was trying to get a translucent effect on my Airfix BE2C. I should have just chosen KP plastic: When not held up to the light, it’s opaque. And topside green and black will take care of the translucency.
AdrianMF
When the Finnish Air Force did lettering, the letters that landed on anything but black were black, and letters, or bits of letters, that landed on black were done in green: I used Letraset for this lettering. I only have black letters and numbers. I left a square of the black area in green, applied the Letraset, and then over painted in black. When it was dry, I gently scraped off the letters, leaving the green! Absurdly pleased with myself. 10

I do like the Finish markings. Used in over a dozen different countries including the Free French Airforce would provide enough interesting schemes that could keep anyone building variations for quite some time. Your build has me searching for a kit. As you and others are aware, the U-2 was flown by the all female Soviet Night Witches during WW-II in a very effective harassing role. There is a very well done Russian series by StarMedia called the "Night Swallows" with english subtitles. eight one hour episodes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFK9wAOatGE cheers, Graham 1

modelling minion
You really are motoring along with this one Adrian. The Finnish wartime camo on your Po-2 is one of my favourite schemes and you are doing a great job on it.
