Mirage Hobby 1/35 Polish 7TP tank, twin turret version with 2x Hotchkiss MGs.

Poland purchased a small number of British Vickers E tanks in the very early 1930s, and then set about producing their own licenced copy with a few improvements soon after. A twin turret versions with 2x Hotchkiss MGs and a single turret version with a 37mm Bofors gun were both produced up to 1936, after that only the single turret version remained in production. At the start of WWII the twin turret ones were obsolete and didn't take part in the fighting until the last stand in the streets of Warsaw.

This Polish kit of a Polish tank was bought online from a Polish shop for £7. It was OK going together, the only issue being the rubber tracks that just wouldn't engage with the sprocket teeth. I was having fun weathering it, but then accidentally tipped 1/2 a bottle of brown Grime all over the front of it 🤦‍♀️😬 and that was the end of it! I cleaned most of it off, but just decided to stop there, so it's a bit unfinished.

OOTB, the only thing I did was drill out gun barrels, suspension tube ends, exhausts and klaxon, No decals at all, as they had all unit markings removed by order before WWII.

Fairey Seafox, Matchbox 1:72. Finished as from 765 NAS based at Lee on Solent in 1940. Finished with brush painted Xtracrylix with shadow shading, I used Camouflage Grey in lieu of Sky Grey. Then matted down with Liquitex matt varnish. Completely OOB

Something like 12 years ago I decided to do a batch of Soviet WWII aircraft to replace the few old kits I had and I decided I would include a P-39 Airacobra. I actually ended up buying two Hobbyboss 1/72 kits, their P-39N and P-39Q intending to do one in Russian markings and one in US markings, and earlier in this GB I did a Russian P-39N. The kits are in fact identical with only the Decs being different - 2 Russian for the N and one Russian and one US for the Q. Unfortunately, if my references are correct, the one they provide US markings for was actually a photo recce bird and would need cameras fitting, together witha a new prop as the kit one is far too small, so I had a mad thought. I have always fancied building a P-400 - the US retained version of the ones Bell made on a contract for the RAF who rejected them, and as replacement exhausts are now available for £3 I thought I would have a go. The main differences are that the exhaust had 12 individual stacks instead of 6 paired ones, the vents on the nose to get rid of the fumes when the guns were fired was a later addition so they were removed, and the short 37mm cannon firing though the spinner was replaced by a longer 20mm one. I make no claims for accuracy but it looks about right to me.

I knocked up some DIY decals and did it in the markings of a plane flown by Lt. Eugene Wahl of the 39FS. 35FG, %th Air Force based at 12 mile airbase in New Guinea in 1942 - there is some debate as to the colours with some sources saying the names were yellow and some blue - I have gone with the majority! The camo is my attempt at the US version of the RAF colours they were left in when "repossessed". I have straightened out the pitot tube after seeing the above pics.

Cheers

I haven't been spending much time with the kits of late what with my existential crisis and the fact that I've been out and about a fair bit, but I've finally managed to drag this one over the line. It's the Airfix 1/72 Curtiss P-40B Warhawk, picked up from Amazon for the princely sum of £6.99 delivered, built entirely out of the box with the addition of a bit of Uschi thread for the antenna wires (which I'm pretty sure hasn't bumped it over the tenner!) It's a lovely little kit, builds like Lego. The sharp-eyed will note that the underwing roundel is slightly wonky and again on the underside I made bit of a mess of the port navigation light, but I can live with these, otherwise one of my better efforts, I didn't make an absolute hash of the canopy! As usual close-up photography is brutal but it sails through the three feet test!

Brief and unremarkable WIP here if you're interested. Thanks for looking in!

Well here it is, my 1/72 Mirage III. Even the easy builds can catch you out sometimes, but overall a chilled build and paint. And most importantly, from my point of view, the undercarriage stayed upright 😀

Thanks for the GB, I've enjoyed it.

This is my build of the Amodel 1/72 La-5FN. I believe it is a re-boxing of an old KP kit but it is not bad and went together pretty easily.

DSC05434-crop DSC05436-crop DSC05438-crop

It is in the markings of 19 kill ace Snr Lt Georgii Baevskii of 5 GIAP in the Ukraine in December 1943. He had flown it from new in September 1943 and was flying it when he shot down his 17th kill, a Fw 189 on December 12th. The rear gunner of the recce plane shot up his engine and he was forced to land in enemy held territory but his wingman landed nearby and picked him up. I have used the optional cowling with the intake flaps closed as it would be when standing on the ground.

Cheers

THis is the ICM 1/72 kit of the I-16 Model 24. It is a nice little kit though the rather fiddly engine and cowling were a bit of a pain - good if you wanted to leave the cowling panels off I guess.

DSC05422-crop DSC05424-crop DSC05426-crop

The markings are those of Captain B Safanov of the 72 SAP, Northern Fleet Air Force in Summer 1941, and Osprey say he is believed to be the first Soviet Ace of WWII.

This is the ancient Airfix 1/72 kit of the Hawker Sea Hawk FG 6 which was actually built by Armstrong Whitworth as Hawkers were busy with the Hunter. It is rather crude by today's standards so I have added a cockpit interior, boxed in the wheel wells and intakes, and added jetpipes and a few whip aerials.

DSC05428-crop DSC05430-crop DSC05432-crop

I have built it a couple of times before but this is a more recent boxing in the markings of 806 Squadron FAA, who were both the first to operate the F1 and the last to operate the FG 6. This aircraft is now preserved in the FAA Museum in Yeovilton.

Hi all, Here is my first entry to any group build (signed up with this one first) and my thirds and fourth planes: bf-109 e4 airfix, in 1/72 and a hawker hurricane mk 1, revell, in 1/144. Both less than a tenner combined! Brush painted. Big thanks to Stix for hosting:

Airfix Short Stirling Mk1

This has been with me since the days of paper rounds, endless summer holidays and eating as much as you want and never put any weight on !

I think it was the almost HMS Victory quantity of parts in the box that has put me off all these years, so this GB was the ideal opportunity to finally get it built.

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement and support, it was greatly appreciated, I hope you like it

Cheers Pat

I did quite a few Matchbox tanks in my youth, but never had and of the 3 colour larger sets.

Been an interesting project, a bit fiddly and required careful clean up and the instructions are not great.   OOB, adjust the figures so they actually held the steering wheel.   Paint mostly Vallejo Moder Color, with some Tamiya.    Oil wash, and then pastel chalk for dust,  found that if you add lighter fuel to the chalk dust, you can get to paint on.

Never done any vehicle weathering,  aimed for tying to make them look dusty, as summer 1944 in Caen area.

This is my build of the ICM 1/72 kit of the Nakajima Ki-27 Otsu, commonally called Nate. It is a nice kit and builds up well.

DSC05556-crop DSC05558-crop DSC05559-crop

I have used the kit markings for a plane flown by Captain Kenjii Shimada, Commander of the 1st Chutai of the 11th Sentai as it might be in June 1939 at the start of the so called Nomonhan incident in China. He went on to score 27 official kills before being shot down on September 15th of that year. I have used Tamiya IJA greenish grey paint, which seems to have been about right for the period.

Hello all, here is my Airfix Sopwith Pup in 1/72 scale. Cost was £1.75 in a buy one get one free deal Airfix did in the 1980's so was actually half that, the Transfers were Blue Rider sheet BR-243 £5 in 2021 bought especially for this GB, 4 Microscale WWI roundels (from an old 1980's sheet I had left over, and a spade grip for the control column was photo-etch again from a old left over fret which I had in the 1980's too. That dates me, doesn't it! Anyway, all in all, still all less than a tenner.

The model shows an aircraft which was C242 from No7 Training Squadron, Netheravon, 1918, and here it is:
