Chris,

All coming along nicely! I think you are right about the Firefly's stripes - rough and ready would be the order of the day,

Cheers,

Roger

Thanks Roger, very kind and thanks for the vote for the raggedy stripes too.  I will see what I can do there.

Very nice! I missed that Nimrod before. Looks great. Love the tone and the colours of that stripe and numbers.

Hi Chris. I pop by the aircraft pages too rarely these days, but the progress looks great. Very happy to see that Nimrod back on the bench. Looking really lovely in that scheme.

Thanks David, I had to re start it, it was staring at me on the shelf of doom,  not sure about the wings yet though, they are scaring me a bit😬 the scheme does look nice.

Thanks Andy hope you're keeping well.

I am pleased to get the Nimrod back on the bench again and hopefully it should start to look good with the tailplane in place very soon.

Although tonight I want to get more done in the Whirwind cockpit as that is starting to come together quite nicely now.

Thanks guys

Chris

Thanks Keith, very kind of you fella.  I hope to get the Nimrod further along soon.   Pleased with them all especially with the little coach as it has turned out much better than anticipated,  just got the grab handles to add from wire strands.

Thanks

Thanks Col, I am a bit concerned about the wing assembly and although I have assembled the upper wing I am going to havecto cut off the port side and re attach as could not get a satisfactory join, they were slightly warped and although I have straightened them as best as I could I am not happy with it. Will post more when I have some progress.

Pleased that the Firefly is progressing well.

Thanks

Chris

😄 Thanks Col, I  am all for the easy route really, a lazy modeller 😉😄

I hope the saw cut through the joint will create a good straight joint whilst allowing the dihedral to be attained easily. Fingers crossed.

Thanks fella

Hi Chris,

With regard to the ID stripes on your Firefly.  I do not think they were roughly applied like the WWII invasion stripes.  The Carriers would have had the time and equipment to be able to mask and spray them, like they would for all other markings.  Stripes could also have been applied in the Depot.  From the photos below they seem very neatly applied.

From Imperial War Museum photo collection.

Hope that helps..

Agreed about the neatness of the Korean stripes, but disagree about D-Day ones.  There were a few odd ones but otherwise it seems to be a modellers' myth.  Except on my models of course.

Just catching after after a few weeks away Chris. Great news about your wifes treatment! Puts everything into persepctive, but also highlights how important something as apparently trivial as plastic kit modelling is in coping with what everyday life throws at us.

Builds coming along very nicely. Loving the Nimrod especially!

Hi GB, thank you so much, your timing is absolutely perfect as I was about to start distressing them , that is brilliant and I can go over them now with a second black coat now in a hopefully tidy way.

Thanks again

Thanks Mike, crikey yes, we are both very relieved and glad to have come out into the light again.   Modelling certainly helped and does focus one's mind and allows to escape to another world.

Pleased with how they are all turning out

Butvi can't seem to put down the 32nd Whirlwind at the mo.

Thanks guys

Hi all

Some slight progress on the Firefly,  I had painted the EDSG and noticed two seems on the top of the radiator faings in the top of the wing and another just in front of windscreen that appeared,  so sorted with Talc and superglue and had a first post over them. Starting to look like a Firefly now.

I would have done more but have been working on the Whirwind  and this little beauty too, the 009 coach, which is now finished with 1.2mm wire grab handles and opening window safety bars and photo etch door handles. Really chuffed with how this has turned out, looks very cute.

Thanks Alistair,  it was a heck of a shock, but thankfully she is clear and has recovered very well indeed.

Pleased with how the Firefly looks, just about to fade the EDSG a bit.

Been thinking about what to start next, thinking about a 32nd Swordfish, a 72nd Hawker Osprey or another Seafire?

Will have a think
