bigbadbadge Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 Hi all I hope you're all okay, my partner got her diagnosis, it turns out she had a low grade ovarian cancer and it ha spread to the fatty curtain or omentum so they classed as a stage 3 cancer. They believe that the op was successful in removing it all and so she is now on a course of anti estrogen tablets (as that is the treatment it responded to in tests), incase there is any they could not see. We are all very relieved and so it turns out that the appendicitis she suffered really has saved her life. I don't know what I would do without her so am very happy they think it has all been removed. A bit more progress on the Firefly too. Just fettling some bits before the paint goes on. I am trying to confirm the undercarriage bay colours, the instructions call for grey green but unsure. Thanks for looking in. Chris 9 1 1

Best wishes for her recovery. Perhaps time to do those things you've been putting off... recently told my wife it's time to make the most of a trip back to Japan next Spring. We're not getting younger and with her health problems beaten back, it's time to take advantage. Hope the firefly is providing a good distraction... I tried some brush painting today but not at your level 1 1

We are not fussed by travelling anyway so all good. Modelling is such a great distraction. The Firefly is very nearly ready for some paint. Good to hear you have bee doing some brush painting, I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks Chris 4

That's great news Chris - best wishes for a very long and happy future to you both Firefly is coming on well! I also tried brush painting this week - the underside of a model for our next club comp (can't say what it is as the only rule in our comps is the entry has to be kept secret until comp night!) - painted in thinned down Valejo model colour black acrylic. It looks awful....!! So, out with the masking tape and airbrush then !! 🤣 Keith 1 1 1

Great to hear you've done some brush painting, mine always look awful with the first coats but then start to come to life, when they build up. Was it just the one cost ? I of course, did not get on with acrylics myself so kudos to you for brush painting with them. Thanks fella Chris 2
2996 Victor Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Hi Chris, Glad to hear your good lady is well on the way to recovery! The 'C' word always sends shivers down the spine, but it sounds like it's been intercepted and dealt with which is truly fantastic news. Please pass on all my and Jane's best wishes. I know what you mean as I would completely lost without my better half. The Firefly is coming on well, too, you'll be looking for your next project soon All the very best, Mark 1
CJP Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Hi Chris, that is good news with your wife's results & treatment - imagine yourselves emerging into the sunshine again☺️ Firefly is looking good & suitably busy in the exposed under wing area - it is going to be a great looking model Chris 1 1

Like you say yhe C word foes send a shiver down one's spine, but to think they have it all and have got the right treatment straight away is phenomenal and very grateful to the consultant and NHS staff for what they have done. Pleased with the Firefly and very nearly ready for the paint now. 13 minutes ago, CJP said: Hi Chris, that is good news with your wife's results & treatment - imagine yourselves emerging into the sunshine again☺️ Firefly is looking good & suitably busy in the exposed under wing area - it is going to be a great looking model Chris Thanks Chris, the dark time is fortunately over and we can breath again. She was very brave, I would have been a wreck!!! Pleased with the wingfold structure it does look quite effective. I can't wait to get painting now. Thanks guys for you kindness Chris 3

keefr22 Posted October 21 Posted October 21 14 hours ago, bigbadbadge said: Was it just the one cost ? Well, sort of! I'd actually started the model a few years back and had already sprayed the underside black. But in the intervening time with it kicking about on various shelves and being moved around a lot the paint had got really scuffed and marked. Looking at it again today it doesn't look so bad now it's dried fully, so I'm just going to hope the final airbrushed matt coat will hide the worst of it! And anyway the thing will be stuck to a base so no-one will ever see its bottom....!! 🤣 Keith 2

Nickthebrief Posted November 2 Posted November 2 On 9/1/2021 at 12:12 AM, bigbadbadge said: Thanks Richie for the suggestion. I have not tried either myself and don't want to risk the one I have in trying anything like that. I will need to practice and at the mo I have so many models and too little time !!! If a spare cannot be located then I will have to live with it as it is. There is a clear option in the kit, but this would mean a different scheme and I don't want to change the airframe I am doing and unfortunately it is a bigger nose, otherwise I could have used that. Thanks Chris Hi Chris. With the release of the Airfix Anson I have been looking at Fleet Air Arm schemes and love the all yellow EG317, which has brought me back to your long (long!) running FAA build thread. The Xtradecal sheet has this aircraft with the “bubble” nose. Your reference book cover profile clearly shows it with the more “solid” nose as per your build. The Airfix kit only provides the latter. I guess what I’m asking is: can I be sure that Hall, Taylor (and you!) are right and Xtradecal are wrong? (And I suppose I’m being a cheapskate as I could buy the book and see for myself…) I do have the Classic Airframes Annie in the stash somewhere, but would be very annoyed to raid the bubble nose from that only to produce the wrong result! Any info would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Nick. 1

Hi Nick I did a lot of searching prior to the build and I will have a look backvghrough photos to see if I have anything that confirms it, I was happy with the solid nose at the time and I am sure I wouldn't have proceeded otherwise. I will need to check out a bit later though as am out in the garage at the mo playing on one of my classic cars to try and get it running right. The little book is good but only devotes a couple of pages tovthe Royal Navy Ansons and some profiles. My book binding has given way too, but is still handy. I have the Airfix kit too and might have to do another one, poss a silver one??? Bear with me and will look later when I get a chance. Chris 3
AliGauld Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Some nice progress there Chris, Some Navy Ansons in the future too. Nice. Cheers, alistair 1 1

Will finish the Firefly and see how I feel. @Nickthebrief, I will PM you a photo which confirms EG317 has the more solid nose. It's one I found after lots of trawling on t'internet. Thanks Chris 4

bigbadbadge Posted November 3 Author Posted November 3 Hi all Some further progress on the Firefly. Some ID stripes have been brushed on. This is only the first coat of black and needs more but I will paint up to the lines now. I am thinking they will need to be more raggedy as i presume may have been painted on on board ship and by hand/brush? Some progress has been made, a wash and some exhausts fitted, I have added the actuators to the rudder and will get the tailplane finished off. This one is fir Mark @2996 Victor as is a 009 Narrow gauge Festiniog Railway coach made from a Parkside Dundas kit, it is very nearly finished, I just need to make all the external grab handles, really pleased with this one so far I have been building a 32nd scale Crikey too and once I have enough to entertain, I will commence a thread. Thanks for looking in Chris 12

More please Thanks Mark, it was one of the PD models so will be older, cost a fiver from the Model Exchange in Hythe last year and I have a longer PD coach kit to do, which cost a couple of quid from the KESR , in the museum there as they have some second hand bits, but it's all there so is another great bargain. Very pleased with the coach and it runs very freely, just need to figure out couplings etc. 18 minutes ago, AliGauld said: Excellent stuff. Looking really grand. Dunny Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Chris, All coming along nicely! I think you are right about the Firefly's stripes - rough and ready would be the order of the day, Cheers, Roger 2 1
