2996 Victor Posted March 19 Posted March 19 May I ask, Chris, how has the SH Seafire kit been as regards ease of assembly? I seem to recall a few pages back that getting the wings and fuselage together was a bit trying, but other than that? Many thanks! Mark 1

Mark Hi Mark The wings were a bit of fun to join to the fuselage, but they are very sturdy in place. I think it was something to do with the cockpit assembly making if too wide, but whether that was my fault or the kit's i am not sure, i found it easier to assemble the cockpit with the IP on the stb side and the seat and frame on the port side an then when jouned used clamps on the inner cockpit sides , so whther this caused the issue i don't know. The rest of it has been good to assemble really. SH provide the earlier elevators type so I have cut off and made the later style elevators. There is a sort of 3d effect as some panels stand proud to the main surface other than the fuel tank cover. Will have to see how it looks when done as I have a further two in the stash. Overall it is looking like a Seafire although I know the fuselage is slightly over length I think by 2-3mm I decides not to take this out. Are you getting one Mark? It would be great if Eduard issued some Seafires. Chris 1 1
2996 Victor Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Thanks for the extra info, Chris, much appreciated! I'm inspired by your build and thinking of building a couple of Seafire IIIs, and the SH kit seems like a good option. I understood the kit's fuselage was actually a couple of mm short. It certainly goes together very nicely as you've shown and it's good to know there aren't any real vices to watch for! Many thanks once again, Mark 2

Not really sure if it's worth the bother of correcting, tbh! I'm kinda looking forward to it (one may even be a what-if USN reverse lend-lease) but Seafires are something a bit different for me so it should be fun. All the best, Mark 2

Cheers, Mark Thanks Mark, very kind pleased with all three, thank you to you for selling the Beaufighter conversion as this allowed me to make the FAA Beaufighter. Just taking a quick break as out doing 1:1 modelling with the Fastback, respraying the door shuts after some minor repairs. Chris 3

And talking of stunning - so is that gorgeous Beau, really cracking job! Hope the 1:1 car painting went well, glad to hear you didn't do that with a brush..... (although I once painted my second ever car (HB Viva) with a 4 inch brush - bright red as I didn't like it in white. It looked even worse than my attempts at brush painted models do....!! 🤣 ) Top work on everything again! Keith 1 1

Honest not a magician as you will see the tools of the trade below too. The 1:1 model is going well, some repairs done to the offside A pillar with some small holes needing sorting, small sections cut out and new metal welded in and made good, my mate welded for me as I hate doing it after a dose if arc eye some years ago, and I made good and painted. Very pleased so far, floors all stripped and will be treated, zinc primed and have 4 coats of smootherite with a roller. In the meantime sprayed offside shut, in middle of prepping nearside shut too, fortunately no holes on that pillar. Chuffed with this one, not bad for a 56 Yr old original vehicle. 1 hour ago, CJP said: Nice work on both Chris Chris Thanks Chris, really pleased with them . Thanks guys Chris 7
bigbadbadge Posted March 25 Author Posted March 25 More progress on the Seafire too Faded EDSG drybrushed on using these old knackered Humbrol brushes. This is the camouflage toolkit. The Seafire, I have faded the leading edge a bit more as I watched a documentary on you tube some time ago and they polished the leading edges to get more speed. Thanks for looking in Chris 11
Cookenbacher Posted March 26 Posted March 26 That's a great dry-brushed fading effect Chris - now to try and wear out some Humbrol brushes... 1 3
