A lot.

I’m still a bit in awe at your post shading with a brush.

Excellent stuff.

As Mark says your post shading is so good and with a brush hard to imagine how you achieve it.

Cheers,

Alistair

Thanks Mark and Alistair , very kind .  Pleased with the post shading, it is simply a lightened non thinned coat almost dry brushed on really just a bit more paint on the brush spread out around the panel.

I reckon you both might enjoy the brush painting too you know:whistle:

Thanks guys

Thanks guys for your kind comments, I am chuffed with it so far, I have got to adjust the paint on the fuselage where the now smaller roundels go as I forgot about that bit 🙄, then I can get some decals on and start to move this one to a finish.

Hi all

Managed to get the fuselage roundel areas painted as this has smaller roundels.  Initially I used a post it note cut out as a mask, stuck down with water to avoid pulling any paint or the paper Seafire bits off.

As I needed it to be slightly darker than the general DSG so used black first then a quick coat of DSG after that then two more subsequent coats free hand about 8 hours later.  Happy with that.

As usual Chris it looks great.  It was really useful to see the stages of how you built up the roudel area colour.  Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks Rob,  it was a bit of an experiment and thankfully worked out .  First time I have used paper masks with water used to stick them down , worked very well and will definitely use again.

I have gone a step further and used diluted PVA (needed no edge gaps for hard demarcation on 1/72 scale camo).   That's ok on enamels.  But for heaven's sake don't use water or PVA to stick masks to acrylics.  It just partially dissolves the paint.  Ask me how I know ........

I should wear a permanent L-plate .......

Oh mate, sorry to hear that Rob, still you have learned from it so a good lesson 😉 Never thought of using diluted PVA Rob. Mind you might take me a while to try it as just started using water to stick down paper masks😄

Chris

The reason I tried diluted PVA was that it took me so long to apply all the bits of moistened paper that by the time I aimed the airbrush at the fully masked airframe the water had entirely dried out from the earlier items and half the bits of masking just blew off!!   :rofl2:

Before using on my recent Hurricane, I tried the PVA on a mule.  The masks came off easily and I found that diluted left less residue - but whether diluted or not this can be just washed off anyway with a cotton bud and water.

Neccessity is a mother .... or something :hmmm:

Well I can't do better than echo all the superlatives you've already received Chris, really excellent work again - and those feathered camo edges, with a brush - I have no idea how you can do that (despite you having told us many times...!! :) )

I'm hoping today to get the topside camo sprayed on the KP Seafire 1b that Mark @2996 Victor kindly sent me when he gave up 72nd scale - if I can get a finish anywher close to yours I'll be a very happy bunny...!! 🐰

Thanks Rob , yes it does dry out quickly, just don't rub to hard when removing the PVA residue😉😄

Thanks Keith, very kind, I find the old knackered brushes the best for the feathering.

Good luck with the Seafire  I am sure your finish will be superb,  when will we see the results fella???

Looking forward to seeing it.

Thanks Rob, I've struggled to get a hard edge without a ridge.

Just a quick response (apologies Chris for hijack) - maybe I was just lucky Charlie.  I've just gone and checked on the models and don't seem to have suffered that outcome, but as I said, probably just lucky..

I also took on board a tip or 2 from the Sovreign Models/Colourcoats "How to do it" videos including reducing the airbrush pressure.  I think I'd been doing what was referred to as "power hosing" the colour on.  :giggle:

Cheers
