Hi all

Some further progress.

Martlet is almost finished, with the wash added and cleaned off, the wheels added and prop painted.  Just got to add the lights, aerial and prop and some weathering.

The Avenger has also had the wash , prop built and wheels painted so not too far off either, although a few bits need some touching in.

The Sea Gladiator has had the lower wing shadow scheme painted and faded along the the DSG on main fuselage and tail planes, this has also been faded.  I will start on the EDSG next, just looking for confirmation of camouflage pattern on Starboard side as all profiles show port side only, so taking a guess at mo as to stbd side from top profile view on the Silverwings instruction online PDF.

Corks.

All three are looking wonderful.

The lower wing shadow scheme is looking particularly effective, can't wait to se it all come together.

Cheers,

Alistair

All three coming together beautifully, Chris.  I don’t know how you keep track but you manage to so well.

Thanks Mark, chuffed with how they are looking so far. It can be a challenge with a busy work bench but been lucky so far.😄

The bits are coming together for the two Spitfires I want to build too. Will be very crowded then!!!

Thanks guys

Chris

Chris,

All 3 are looking marvellous - I have another 1:72 Sword Avenger and I was considering that very scheme!

Hi all

Some progress on the Sea Gladiator,  The DSG added to the top of the engine cowling, first coat will need more

First coat of EDSG brushed on

The Stbd side is speculative as I cannot find any photos of this aircraft from this side and so used another with the same sort of scheme.  The schemes all differ though.

The sky grey was added to the undercarriage legs as per the photo of N5524 in early 1941 as per the wonderful photo and side profile in Tony OT's wonderful book on the war in Malta, No place for beginners .

Thanks for looking in

Chris

Just playing catch up Chris, and some excellent progress on all three! Don't know why, but for some reason that Avenger is my fave!

They all have your usual stunning paintwork though!

Thanks Keith, very kind.  I do like the Avenger too, although the Sea Gladiator is a real beauty.  Pleased with the paintwork so far.

Been clearing the garage out today in anticipation of the new arrival soon , fingers crossed.

Chris,

Sea Glad is looking lovely - I think your interpretation of the RHS is good. Very exciting to have space in the garage 🤣

Hi all,

Fuselage faded and some darker stains and spots added,  nearly all the decals on too, used kit tail fin flashes, AIMS roundels and a cross of kit and extradecal serial numbers (I know the 2s are the wrong style but it is all I have) and Xtradel code letters.

Quite pleased with that.

Thanks for looking in.

  • bigbadbadge changed the title to FAA builds, 32nd Hawker Nimrod ,more Seafires, Avenger 1, Martlet V and 32nd Malta Sea Gladiator now underway.

She's looking brilliant Chris - and I know I've said it before but your paintwork with a brush is magical! Really excellent weathering effects.

Thanks Keith, very kind as usual. Pleased with how it is looking. I will let them harden off and look at getting a wash on, rig the tail and start on the struttery.

Thanks

I have been repairing an earlier Gladiator build  and repainted the prop as I had done it in varnished wood which is wrong, so repainted fgar, and repaired a rigging wire and the aerial wire as I knocked it off a while ago and doing the Sea Gladiator  made me do this one too, so I thought I would give it a cheeky photo or two here.

This is the Roden 48th Mk I built some years ago using Eduard PE embellishments.

Pleased I did this repair

I should say so! Fantastic paintwork as always, Chris, the fading you introduce is so subtle and extremely convincing. But of course, the cleanest of builds is the cornerstone, and you've absolutely ace'd that! Superb!

The Roden 1/48 Mk.I looks great, too - I've heard good things of that kit, although isn't there some small issue with the cowling? Lovely to see one in TLS, too.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark, very kind.  The Sea Gladiator should look better soon with a wash and the tail rigging then I can move onto all the struts etc.

The Roden Gladiator was a good kit, not sure about the cowling , I know the Merit kit had amore flat cowling against the more curved Roden kit.  I have one if each left in ghe stash to build so can compare at some point, the Merit kit looks to be a simpler kit.

Edit

Just noticed, the lower wing camouflage is wrong on my Roden kit as did not do the Shadow scheme, although in my defence it was built in the naughties and I did not worry about the research so much then

Thanks fella

Chris,

Lovely work on the Sea Glad, and nice to see a stable-mate. Were they all shadow scheme? I'm sure I've seen prewar versions which were not, but the memory's not what it was...

Lovely work anyway,

Too many cars in the garage causes that - you can never decide what to drive. Easy solution though - send me your Porsche....!!! :rofl2:

Mine hasn't arrived yet, still waiting for my money🙄
