So sorry to hear that, Chris, but frustration is a real mojo-sapper. This Seafire and the Nomad are absolutely superb, and it would be a such a shame to undo all your fabulous work. I'm sure you'll overcome the issues with the wash soon!

Cheers,

Mark

Do you think it actually needs a panel line wash Chris? It looks really good to me as it is and a good matt coat may just finish it off nicely, especially with some minor pastel weathering?

I'm not far off finishing the 72nd Seafire 1b that Mark @2996 Victor kindly sent me (& apologies Mark for the time it's taking, been spending too much time playing with my car models :) ) & I recently gave that a panel line wash. I know it's a smaller scale but tbh afterwards I think I may have overdone it & it would have been better without....

Just a thought.

Keith

Thanks Mark and Keith I have had a bit of a think about it and managed to get some lines rescribed and will go over the ones with decals on with a scalpel blade to see if that helps, Stuart @Courageous suggested oils which I used to use anyway and use a brush to wipe away any excess, which is what I used to do tooso will go back to doing that instead of the enamel wash I used on these, I used them on the FAA Beau and they worked a treat.  So will go back to the oils.

Thanks guys

AHA! I'm on the right thread now. Doh! Yes, nice Seafire. Like the Beaufighter, it makes a nice change.

Thanks Pete and thanks for the Props  too, looking forward to a bit of whittling now.

I have had some fun with the Seafire,  but am pleased to say it is very nearly finished.  Very chuffed with the Beaufighter , always wanted to do an FAA Mk.II after seing one built by TonyOT some years ago.

Loads more FAA builds to come.

Thanks

Thanks Roger, crikey yes it is, I am nearly there  now, will get them both done in the next few days and I can get some fresh plastic on the bench.  Now I have a prop or two kindly sent by Pete, I can commence my Sea Gladiator build with extras and might add a Firefly to the mix too.

Sounds interesting, Chris: definitely looking forward to the Glad, and a Firefly would be a nice addition, too!

"...I get knocked down

But I get up again...!" ⬆️🌈😇

I've just been catching up on this epic journal, Chris. I'm mentally regrouping too after some Frog kit bashing in the Frog Group Build. It can all get a bit trying.. .🤪

And it can be too much time spent with a project.

The plane looks enviably great 👍. You could take a break from it I suppose but I think you're back on the case now.

Pin wash  .....? Does grubby finger marks count as a pin wash??😅  If so, I'm sorted thanks

Thanks Rob , I am feeling the mojo levels are getting back to normal  and looking forward to the next builds. The Seafire has been a bit of a pain with the wash and I have done what I can with it and once the Matt Varnish is dry I will add some chipping and staining then can call this one done.

Grubby fingers, like it.

Thanks Chris, getting there now .  Really looking forward to the Firebox , the wolf pack wingfold does look very nice, it's all cut from it's pouring stubbs and ready to go.

Too bad about the panel line wash, but it seems that you've got it worked out.  I'm always a fan of pencil for panel lines -- I've got quite a few builds where I've used it -- but it does take some getting used to in order to get the effect you want.

Otherwise, it looks superb!

I like your pencil panel lines Opus999,  I first saw it on your Mig 23, I think and was very impressed.

I have managed to dort out with the oil wash and may possibly finish the Seafire and the Nomad tonight.  They don't look too bad now.

Thanks

Hi all

Wahoo, finally finished the Seafire, although the sliding part of the canopy was a bit tight on the fuselage and crazed across the top so have pulled it off after the photos and glued on a Tamiya one and so need to paint that up.

I will get some RFI pics done at some point soon, very busy at the mo at work and trying to get my car rebuilt and gave a Retros Run in the morning and another next week, crikey there are not enough hours in a day!!!

Thanks to you all for the support and encouragement, this one ended up sapping the mojo a bit , glad it didn't end up on the shelf of doom though.

The Seafire is looking amazing, Chris, absolutely superb! Shame about the canopy but good to know you've got a replacement already in place. This has been a great build to follow with lots of inspiration :)

Thanks Mark, that is really kind.  Thank you for your support and encouragement too.  I hope you enjoy building your Seafire too.  Yes thank goodness for spare Tamiya canopy sections.  Just gotcto paint it now without knocking the aerial mast.
